Max redline I should pull?

Good day- I'm wondering what the maximum rpm's I should be reving on my TBI with these mods:

Full intake- large open element, covered TBI unit, Edelbrock performer manifold.

Ignition- All MSD; MSD6A box, wires, blaster coil, and cap.

Exhaust- Stock from block to cat. 3" flowmaster catback

2.73 gears

If it matters- built transmission.

I can hear when I *think* it is running out of breath, but I never push it all that hard, so I'm unsure how high I can take her.

Also, if I got headers for the TBI block, is there a replacement that allows me to retain the 02's and not have any clearance issues anywhere else under the hood?

id say max 5k which i have done any past i really dont think itll pull much. as for the headers you can get any brand with a y pipe but if you want an o2 bung already on it I BELIEVE the edelbrocks have it the others you have to drill and weld on your own bung.

Re: Max redline I should pull?

take it to the dyno and you'll know exactly how high you can take your car up to.

I think stock rod bolts are only good for 5-5500 rpm

I appreciate the answer. I only owned TPI cars, this is my first TBI. Just curious is all. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

Re: Max redline I should pull?

a small block with main studs and a windage tray can take 6k all day, so I would imagine it would be 5-5.5K for your application. Don't forget to take valve float into consideration too.

cheers!!!

Re: Max redline I should pull?

I think I only pulled it to 5000RPM until I did the heads and cam. Now it pulls strong to 6-6500.

Re: Max redline I should pull?

find a nice open stretch of road and do a second gear pull.. when you hit the "wall" of power(the rather steep downward slope on the dyno graph), minus off about 100-200rpm..

No more than 5k. You dont know how the old valves springs are holding up.

Re: Max redline I should pull?

question about pulling too...

was wondering how fast I can spin my stroker over... I have the following msd pills, 3k, 4k, 6k, 7k, 8k... currently the 6k is in there, but my stroker will be getting tuned by dyno. I think ill just carry all the pills with me.. but is 7K too much?? Only thing still stock are my rods...

Re: Max redline I should pull?

You'll still get into valve float at much past 6000 rpm, anything with hydraulic lifters will, and the rods and rod bolts are the most important part about longevity past 6 grand. You'll make max power at around 4800-5200 so there isn't much use to rev past 5500 or so. The dyno graph will show you alot.

i would only pull to 6k for your situation.. i have a built 385 and i dont even spin to 7k.. but i have hit it before during a burnout in a cast 383 with CR3 rods/ARP bolts and speedpro forged pistons.. the CR3 rods are basically the next best thing from stockers
