TBI No Start :(
TBI No Start :(
I had posted a while back that I couldn't get my car started at all. It's a completely stock engine, I've replaced the distributor, spark plugs, spark plug wires, ignition countrol module, injectors, fuel filter, fuel pump. The fuses are good, just checked them tonight.
Long story short I had been waiting to do the brakes on it for a while. I haven't started it for like a month to 2 months given my brakes were horrible. I did the brakes today and went to start my car and it didn't want to start. Turns over fine but won't start. Disconnected the fuel lines going to the throttle body and tried to start it and no fuel came out whatsoever.
Now the problem last time I had this no start issue was the fuel pump and the rubber line inside of the tank. I replaced all of that last time, which was probably 3-4 months ago. I will be royally pissed if that's the issue again because I don't wanna keep on doing this every 3-4 months.
Any ideas why it would suddenly not start? It started fine a month or two ago, started up real quick too. Dunno what the problem is as everything involved with the fuel supply has been replaced within the past year.

Re: TBI No Start :(
So you're not getting in any fuel through the Injectors? Or the fuel lines themselves? When I had my 92 RS with the L03, my fuel injection problem was caused by the pickup on the distributor not being plugged in. Did you take a look back there?
Re: TBI No Start :(
Well I know I am getting fuel up to the fuel filter and going through the fuel filter. But for some reason the is no fuel getting to the throttle body. I'm wondering if by not starting it for a month and having the front end jacked up for a while has done something bad to the fuel lines.
Ya, everything is connected at the pickup on the distributor. I've doublechecked all connections too. THe scary thing is that this is very very similair to the no start issue I had last time but last time it was the fuel pump, to which I replaced along with the fuel filter.

There are couple of reasons for no fuel.
1) Check your fuel pump relay. On most F-bodies there is short pig tail on NC set of contacts. You can use a jumper wire from battery positive terminal to force FP to run and prime fuel system. A car that has been sitting for while will have bone dry system. Be careful with the jumper and gas lines. Connect jumper only when all fuel lines are connected and tight - no leaks!
2) If you hear the pump and still do not get any fuel then check lines for kinks and fuel filter. Also, fuel pick-up inside tank may have fallen off or clogged.

Re: TBI No Start :(
Ok, little update. Did some testing.
If I disconnect the fuel line at the TB and I jump the fuel pump relay, the fuel pump will prime but it takes 3-4 seconds. I don't know how fast 9-14psi is but gas was coming out nonetheless. So I figured what the heck, I'll keep the relay jumped so the fuel pump is constnatly running and try starting it that way. Nope, doesn't start.
So now I'm thinking that even though I bought a new fuel pump (a generic brand one) it could either be faulty or crapped out on me already. I would go out and buy a new fuel pump relay but something tells me it's the pump itself given it took 3-4 seconds for the gas to spew out of the line. Definately not the 2 seconds the ECM does when starting the vehicle.

During start up fuel pump will come one once oil pressure switch sees above 6PSI of oil pressure.
Do you get spark when cranking??? In order for ECM to fire ignition and control injectors it must receive reference signal from dizzy. Check for loose connectors, pinched wires, broken wires, etc from dizzy to ECM.
Also, if there is no fuel spray check fuse (7.5 Amp) in your IGN circuit that feeds injector circuit. You can check injector control circuits with noid light or DVM. The red wire feed (481) to injector connector should have steady 12 volts, while the Dark-Green (468) and Dark-Blue (467) wires will be alternatively pulled to ground.

There's certainly more than 6psi of oil pressure. I do get spark and also I've triple checked the injectors and the connectors to it, they check out fine.
I think it's entirely possible that my fuel pump is gone as it was one of the cheapo fuel pumps that I got just to get the thing running.

Before going through the hassle of dropping a tank (always a fun project) check the usual suspects - pinched lines, funny looking bends, etc. The best way to verify the current pump is actually get fuel pressure tester (I think Autozone rents them) just to make sure. If you're going through the hassle of dropping a tank do not replace your pump with another fake copy made in China garbage. Get a real AC-Delco designed for TBI equipped cars - do not get TPI pump as fuel pressure regulator will have tough time bleeding off excess fuel.

Ya, I took a look at the lines and there isn't anykind of odd bends, pinched lines, etc.
I will try and get a fuel pressure tester but I think that what I see coming out isn't anywhere near the 9-14psi needed. Plus it takes a bit longer than 2 seconds to get it to the TB so the normal 2 seconds the pump is on for on the initial prime isn't enough.

Re: TBI No Start :(
Didn't get a chance to drop the tank today, actually I went to replace the fuel filter with an AC Delco one today. Last time I replaced the fuel filter fuel was coming out but not that fast, easily managed to get the filter changed.
Today I relieved the pressure but when I disconnected the line after the filter fuel exploded everywhere, sprayed everywhere. I struggled to get the line back on but not before I lost probably a gallon of fuel. So I thought perhaps maybe it would start now. Nope. I disconnected the fuel line at the TB and no fuel came out whatsoever yet the fuel pump was running.
So I'm left here thinking it has to be my fuel pump. That or the line is clogged from the fuel filter to the TB. I dunno though.

Re: TBI No Start :(
Man, I feel your pain. Just got done with my fuel pump as well. I keep praying that my problem was not the pump.... and it wasn't. It was the damn 2" rubber line that connected the fp to the pickup. It swelled 2 times it size, felt like a sponge and had a rip in it. Be careful what you ask for ....
It really sounds like the fuel line is clogged seeing that so much pressure has built up in the line by the filter.
I would invest in a FP tester. I got mine from AutoZone for $40. Then, check the pressure pre filter, post filter and then where the hard line and flex line meet near the canister. If it all checks out ok there, then connect it at the TBI port.
Another thing to check is if you are getting 12V at the pump connection near the tank. I jumped it there as well to check the pressure before dropping the tank just in case the relay was sending less than 12V.
I got a "same as" Walbro 190 from Xstreme on ebay for $50. Since I got it that cheap, I justified buying a afpr for $50 as well. Got it in 2 days after order.
If you are in a bind, I have my stock one that only has about 60k on it, I could send it to you for cost of shipping.

Re: TBI No Start :(
The thing is, before I tried to disconnect the lines at the fuel filter and there was so much gas coming out (a lot more than before when I had changed my fuel filter) that I couldn't even check the fuel filter or even get a FP tester on the line.
Re: TBI No Start :(
Well I finally got to dropping the tank today. Took more work than before for some reason but I finally found the reason.
The blasted 2" rubber hose that connects the fuel pump to the fuel line was swelled up, completely disentigrated. Fuel pump worked fine, pumped fuel no problem. But it's that blasted line.

Re: TBI No Start :(
I recently changed my fuel pump. The car turns on and runs for 20-30 seconds, but then it shuts off. The injectors shoot gas out, but after those 20-30 seconds it stops. I have a holley 670 cfm tbi. Any advice?
