Best Intake Manifold
I can't decide which intake to order off Summit. I heard Edelbrock makes the only one for my car but there are so many choices on Summit, and clearance is an issue with the stock hood.. I was looking at Holley and Weiand.. any suggestions?

Re: Best Intake Manifold
I've heard good things about edelbrock's, and I totally dig the way it looks.
I suppose any one of them will give you some gain...but tests have shown(somewhere on here, there's a thread showing the cfm flow) that the stock one actually flows decently, and quite well when doing a simple port job.
so, the real question is, why do you want to change it? it's not going to give you killer power gains if it's all you change, and realistically with a bit more work you could make the stock one flow about on par with most of the aftermarket ones...so the only real reason to buy one is to cut a bit of weight and make it look pretty. in which case I'd go for edelbrock.
otherwise I wouldn't bother. but that's just my opinion.
oh oh, and then there's the ones for vortec heads, they all(all 2-3 of them) flow about the same, and look...about the same. so they kind of speak for themselves.
p.s. I believe shifty is one of the guys who has an edelbrock, and i'm pretty sure he said that there were no clearance issues. one of the stickies on the top of the tbi boards mentions it.

If your staying stock or near stock, then you might as well keep the stock intake. Some of the aftermarket ones can be a real PITA. You have to fab linkages and cables not to mention that the hard fuel lines can make things difficult when using a high rise intake. I also had to cut out the underhood bracing and raise teh back of teh hood to get it to clear the TBI with an RPM airgap. Found that out the hard way when the aircleaner stud tried to come through the bottom of the hood.
