carb to tbi

Hi i just bought an 89 camaro that has a 305 in it and the owners before me switched out the tbi and made it a carb. there is a check engine light on and I have to be able to pass smog and was wondering how hard it would be to take off the carb set up and put back on the tbi. Thanx

Re: carb to tbi

How dificult the reverse swap will be is entirly dependent on how much of the wiring they removed. If they just snipped everything off and replaced the TB and dissy with a carb and mechanical advance distributor then it won't be fun.

You'll just have to start from square one and get a complete setup from a donor vehicle.

The check engine light is because of all the sensors that are not hooked up.

So basically putting the tbi back on is all about the wiring? I can just bolt everything back up and rewire everything and that is all?

I had to chuckle a bit, as my other thought upon reading this was: "at least the ECM is still there."

Unless the SES was hard-wired in the original swap, the ECM is required to turn on the SES light. So it is possible that some of the required items for a swap to TBI are still there.
