TPI Heads

Just wondering here. I checked the local salvage yards and they have TPI heads from a 5.0L TPI engine...kicker is they are from a 1987 Chevy Caprice. Are these the same as the heads from a TPI Firebird/Camaro?

Re: TPI Heads

I should mention that these are going on a 1987 TBI Camaro RS. My buddy loves how my car feels and is super hyped on doing the same mods I did.

Re: TPI Heads

Would you be able to get a casting number? The 081 heads which came on the 305 tpi's are great after some monye is put into them.

Re: TPI Heads

Stock swirl port heads can produce decent power(good off idle torque). Port the stock heads unless you got a pair of 081's sitting around.

I would get the casting numbers to be sure. Caprice cars didn't come with TPI. Unless you are going to port them I would not bother with the effort for stock swap.

Re: TPI Heads

The '87 LG4's came with the same 1081 heads as the LB9's. They were a pretty common head for 87+ 305's.

As are the 187s. I have pulled apart bone stock 1987-1988 L69 305 HO engines that had 187s on them.
