NEW - INJECTOR POD MOD!!

Some of you might enjoy this.

I couldnt run the stock line with the Performer EPS manifold because the hard return goes straight! into the ONLY vacuum port on the manifold. I tried to re-bend it put it cracked because of the tight turn. My braided lines wouldn't clear it either because of the adapter length.

As you may know the adapters into the tbi to the fuel lines are retarded sizes and adapters from holley are now like 30 bucks a piece and on a backorder. Problem solved. 30 bucks TOTAL.

Heres what I did.

I took the adapter fittings I already had and the pod to a guy, he hacked the metric to AN fittings and welded em up. The weld on -6 fittings were 6 bucks each and ten to ship. I already owned the adapters and had no use for them anymore - btw, the bead on the back is a test bead he made to make sure it was good weldable aluminum.

Didn't fit through the hole in the TBI

Get out the Dremel again.

TEMPORARY routing. I need a couple more angled fittings and need to shorten up the hose. I will probably get the new more flexible nylon braided hose too.

Re: NEW - INJECTOR POD MOD!!

very interesting... I wish I would have thought of that when I broke my pod from over tightening it... lol i have a couple extra pods now.. but that is something to consider if I needed the different lines... for a custom fuel system.

cool

I would route those lines a different way. It looks like they could interfere with the throttle/trans cables. Looks good though.

Re: NEW - INJECTOR POD MOD!!

They touch but do not put pressure on them.

Doing it over, I would use a thicker aluminum throttle body adapter to the manifold and that would solve it completely. I would also use a different angle on the feed line and not use the metal braided, they are just not very flexible and way overkill.

Re: NEW - INJECTOR POD MOD!!

why not use the metric o-ring to AN fitting adapters then use AN fitted hose, I plumbed mine up with Russell fittings/hose.

Re: NEW - INJECTOR POD MOD!!

Well the way he did it makes it look cleaner than using adapters. I understand why he did it. It's a good idea. It'll help me decide what I wanna do when I eventually have the need to upgrade to a better fuel supply system.

Re: NEW - INJECTOR POD MOD!!

why not use adapters? i had adapters... too long out of the pod and it seemed silly to use adapters to adapters.... and this is cleaner. the correct adapters straight to the pod with delrin washers (not orings) are not really available. when i tried to special order them they said they'd have to wait to buy them until they had enough orders to justify and they were like 30 each.... finally... i have pods to spare so i wasn't worried about killing mine if it didn't work.

Re: NEW - INJECTOR POD MOD!!

I used the russell adapters straight into my injector pod. Basically looks just like your setup from the outside since the adapters are tucked up under the TBI.

Re: NEW - INJECTOR POD MOD!!

has russel made the washer seal style adapters more readily available? this was my solution a few years ago because they were not... but if they are available now and arent 30 bucks each i would use them instead of doing this.

Re: NEW - INJECTOR POD MOD!!

I used this on pressure side
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/RUS-640813/

and this on the return side
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/RUS-640803/

I had to do some die-grinder work like yours so I could tighten them in but no biggy.

Some 15 years ago was looking for those style fittings. None to be found. I'll bet that these are fairly new.

But either way, good stuff as they replace the adapter pieces. Remove the fuel lines, remove the stock adapters, install these, and connect a -6 AN fitting...

Thanks for pointing those fittings out.

RBob.

Re: NEW - INJECTOR POD MOD!!

Ahh yes but they do not make the 16.5mm x -8 that I (BB pod) required so a russell 670550 & O-ring had to be employed. Fragola makes an o-ring adapter for power steering that fits but it's ID was far too small...defeating the purpose of -8 lines it's #491988.

For anyone looking for a serious fuel pump the brand is SX (Essex Industries), they build Aeromotive's and others pumps.
Summit is selling their baby pump as their own brand for $212, submersible by SX data.

After more thought & consideration http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/s...ump-p-291.html seems to be the pump for me.

Re: NEW - INJECTOR POD MOD!!

Actually that's the size of the standpipe inlet, no way your going to fit -8 stuff up inside. I already ground away all I could...if you were to drill, re-position then weld maybe...

I found it easier to enlarge the standpipe ID to maximum & use it, it's a heavily massaged pod these days lol.

Ah, they are labeled as o-ring but they are really the rochester? style teflon flat washer style seal... nice to see they make them now and they arent special order and are lots cheaper.

Re: NEW - INJECTOR POD MOD!!

They have a square white o-ring, not your typical black rubber round style.

Re: NEW - INJECTOR POD MOD!!

Looks like my BB 7.4L GM TB outlets are pressed into the casting. Thjre is a .50 inch of tubing extending out of casting. I believe that is an metric to AN adapter then a 45 deg press fit Aeromotive fitting.

here is the other side.

Re: NEW - INJECTOR POD MOD!!

hard to see in those pics but look like the stock adapters my bbc tbi had in it factory. They have a hex at the end and a long "snout" that goes into the tbi injector pod.
