CAR WONT IDle

I have a 91 camaro rs tbi 305. when I start the car it will try to idle but is just real rough and then the car will die. I tried to rev the engine and it misses and backfires, and it will die. I have no codes, no ses light. I have replaced plugs, wires, cap, knock sensor, fuel pump relay, tps. Could this be a vats problem? Any ideas will a big help.

Re: CAR WONT IDle

I would assume you have checked the timing but if you haven't I would start there. If not that and everything checks out fine try replacing the ignition module. Check fuses and conections sometimes little things can cause huge problems. My plug wire fell out of the loom and got onto the manifold and it made the car drink gas like nobody's business and it ran like it was on 4 cyls. And that was just 1 wire.

I had the same type of problem, your IAC could be out of whack. Make sure the connector is clean and spray some sensor friendly carb cleaner in your TBI unit through the hole where the IAC sensor is, If that doesn't do it I would try to replace it.

I had the same problem when I brought my 91 Camaro 305 home. One of my injectors was stuck and when i disconnected my fuel lines, it only dribbled out. I also had to replace the fuel pump.

Re: CAR WONT IDle

Check ignition coil, loose connectors and bad grounds

Also, inside dizzy make sure that ignition module is mounted on a clean surface with a minimum of heat sink compound used.

Re: CAR WONT IDle

First : ground the coil wire and see if it fires properly . Next check your injectors and watch if they are spitting normally . If it's all okay , probably the idle air control valve (IAC) ...

Re: CAR WONT IDle

The injectors lokk to be good and the coil is new. I can drive the car and it runs fine most of the time but if I turn the heat on it will start to act up. What would cause it to act up when I use the heat?

Re: CAR WONT IDle

When you turn on the heater fan you are throwing more of a load on the electical system. You may have a bad alternator or battery.Or just the battery cables could be corroded.

Re: CAR WONT IDle

ok, ive been having similar problems with my 92 tbi.... it all started, im driving down the road, with the engine fan on, its hooked up to a switch, my heater was on low vent, it starts to cut out, it did it for a couple of days, so i turn my engine fan off, and it runs fine. im thinking its an ignition problem, and thats what im figuring it to be. but now, a couple months later. the problem persists, the battery is great, the alternator might be the problem. but would it really cause the engine to stutter from 200 rpm to 1300rpm? i replaced wires, plugs, dizzy cap and rotor, but i never changed the coil pack. so im thinking thats what the problem is. im certain its ignition related, i show 12.6 (well, close to it) on the volts at all times, its good charge, the lights rarely dim. thats fine i belive. but the stuttering gets worse when theres a larger load on the ignition(engine fan, heater, a/c,whatever) im not dumping a whole lot of money into this motor, im in the process of a build right now anyways, but id like this to run, it hasnt gone yet. and im sure i can geta 20,000 more miles out of it. im gonna change coil packs out and see if thats the problem. any other causes you guys might think let me know, and ill experiment.helps greatly appreciated....another topic, my buddies 350 iroc tpi wont idle all the time... he has done a mallery ignition box, coil pack, and dist. he got new injectors put in, and set the timing to 15 advanced(i think)the car runs great, while onthe throttle, but some times it wont idle, other times it will, i was thinking the tps? it idles right around 900rpm. then it just dies without warning. dont spit and sputter, just pluh, dead. restarts no problem. any help on that? thanks again, and sorry for bringing back an older post and writing so much, lol..
