just started working on a 5.7. ran real bad. firing order was not right. i had all new plugs, wires, rotor and cap. so i just redid it all. the car has not moved in 4 years. got the old gas out. put in all new. made a big difference. still not right tho. seems to have very little power. will be sitting in the driveway and will just shut off too. no idea what that about

try changing your fuel filter, it could be clogged with crud from sitting up so long.

 

After that, you need to check your fuel pressure.

 

you may even play with your idle to see if it's set too low. i doubt it, but my engine vibrates so much, i have to adjust mine all the time. also, have someone who really knows what they're doing set your timing. I almost forgot, you may try running a fuel treatment or carb leaner in your gas to clean your lines of any deposits.

 

i can grab a new fuel filter. never thought of the timing. when i put the new gas in i put in this stuff that worked pretty good do far. its called sea foam. thanks for the help

 

got the filter. it got a lot worse. barely even starts now. runs really rough to the point where the whole motor just shakes. the service engine light just keep on flashing now too. i was going to get one of those plug in computers see if its a bad computer, or ??????

I think your fuel pressure is low. it may be running out of gas. Check your pressure and then go from there.

You'll have to tee in a pressure gauge at the fuel inlet line on your TBI. You can buy the stuff from GM or you can make it yourself.

It's a pain in the butt, but you have to do this. Without knowing your fuel pressure you will throw a lot of money away troubleshooting by replacing parts.

 

Fuel pressure could be a big problem. Also, try some fuel treatment and make sure everythings clean. Have someone check the timing, distributor, distributor cap..

 

ok if gm is not to much of a rip off. i will go there. they are right down the street. thinking about putting one in and leaving it there. i put sea foam in the fuel. i have had good luck with it so far. timing i have no checked. the cap and rotor are new. how do i check the distributer? what am i looking for? thanks
