luck seems to be on my side tonight

Ive built a few third gens...ranging from a 92 with a 355 to an 88 with a 383...both tpi setups. So after driving a 4th gen i decided i missed my thirdgen and wanted another. I found a wrecked 91 rs with a 305 tbi and picked it up for 600$. I decided on the car because it was literally rust free and it had no power anything. I yanked the motor and planned for a 350 swap but decided to freshen up the 305...which then turned into replacing nearly everything ha. Anyway i heard about the lt1 cam swap and since i was building a budget car i decided to go with that. Well i got one off ebay and it said oem lt1 camshaft and it had some pictures of it. I just bid not even looking at the pics at all and winning it for 40$. So when it arrived i noticed it had a fuel pump lobe...so i said "wtf". So i found some numbers etched onto it 290 HR12...i recognized it as a comp number so i punched it in. Wouldnt you know it...its a comp cam 224/244 @ .50....510 intake, 540 exhaust. So needless to say...ive very happy that i just picked up a 250$ camshaft for next to nothing...let alone i decided to ditch the swirl port heads so this cam is much better suited for the new heads i got..

Just had to share the good news

That's an awfully big cam for a 305, what heads are you running now? You may even want to just turn around and sell it for more and pick up a better matched cam.

I will be running some machined 081's. I had a simliar cam in my old 350 tpi car...i loved it...but like i said that was a 350. I had ported stock heads on that guy too. Regardless i will hold onto the cam for a future 350 but you maybe right on the fact that this cam is too large.

That is a big cam. Itll require a high stall TC (rebuild/mods to the 700 would also be a good idea), 3.73s or 4.10's, good exhaust, good intake, good heads, larger TBI and injectors, high flow fuel pump, and something other then the stock ECM with a good tune. If you dont use the car as your daily driver, then it would be ok.

Ill give ya a run down. Running an edelbrock base, ported 081 heads, possibly this cam, heddman shorties and y (not the best but better then manifolds), dynomax catback, in the process of trying to pick up the holley tb unit. I knew the fuel pump would be an issue so a walbro 255 in tank is on the to do list. I figured i could retain the stocker ecm and attempt to tune it. What problems will i be looking at with that route?

The 700 is getting some love with a stall and a corvetter servo. I plan on going with 3.73s...if not 3.42s. However I loved my 3.73s on my old 92. I assume the cam is still too large for this setup.
