hey guys i just pickd up an 89 305 tbi z28. my boy said that the wiring harness melted and it needs to be replaced. im gettn the car for a good price. but i am wondering if its worth fixing and using or just parting out the car.
also how much does a wiring harness cost. im thinking the engine wire harness is bad. and how much time to replace and how to do it. thanx guys

 

There is an outfit called 'Painless Wiring' that seems to have you covered.

 

It will take a lot of time, and not much money if you take your time and look around. In our classified section you will find wiring harness assemblies for sale cheap, usually with all of the sensors and such with it. The biggest pain is fishing it through the passenger side front fender.

I think Z28s have a good resale value, especially if you got it for nothing. I am curious, though, because you have TBI and I've never seen that on a Z28.

 

Hey I found out it is an Iroc-Z. I guess I'm gunna get a new harness. Becuz a few people r telln me to stay away from carb and it will be costly to fo to carb. Do u kno where there is info on installing one of these harnesses? Like sum sort of instructions. Thanz.... If any1 thynks I should go to carb lemme kno

 

Could you even get a 305 tbi in an Iroc-Z? I thought all Iroc's were TPI?

 

Hey then my boy must be stupid he told me it was a tbi. I havnt seen the engine yet just from a lil distance. Lol soo if it is a tpi, can I use a tbi harness? Damn thys changes a lot now

 

Some IROCs were TBI.

 

Not without alot of cutting and splicing. If you look on ebay there are harnesses off and on all the time or give Thomas at House Of Camaro a call. I'm sure he could fix you up for a reasonable price.

They didn't in 89.

 

hey htanx, but i loookd up and they did make tbi irocs in 88 it says even on this site.

 

Oops I accidentally was looking at 90. I thought you said it was an 89 not an 88? Either way it doesn't much matter
