Valve stem seal questions
Valve stem seal questions
I needed to replace the valve stem seals on my L03 for 5 years now. It barely runs when its cold due to all the Oil it eats when its 20 degrees out.
What is the best way to hold up the valves? TDC, or use air..
The compressor I have is a 3 gal, that pushes maybe 150psi. Will that work? Is the compressor going to kick on every 2 seconds because it has no volume?
Also, Whats the verdict with these Felpro viton intake Valve stem seals. They fit on both the Intake and exhaust valves? I have two packages of Intake valve seals now. Im reading that some had trouble with the fit on the exhaust valve.
Thanks.

Re: Valve stem seal questions
In Shifty Capone's LT1 cam digest, he recommends taking a big length of nylon rope (like you would hang a clothesline with) and feeding it into the spark plug hole untill you cant get anymore in there. That should fill up the area between the valve and the piston head.
Another thing I read on here, is that you can rotate the crank every time, and if that piston is TDC, the valve will fall in a little, but you will still be able to pull it back out.
Personally, I have never worked on a motor yet. I just read alot. So good luck!
