well, im driving along about 50 when i have to slam on the brakes. i come to a complete stop and the engine sputters and dies. when i tried to restart it the engine would just spudder and die.

so i push it into a parking lot and find that i have good spark. however when i crank the engine over there is no fuel coming from the injectors. i am wondering if there is some kind of fuel pump shut off switch that could have been tripped when i slammed on the brakes thinking that i got in a wreck or something?

any help would be appreciated. check my sig for vehicle specs.

 

ok ive checked all fuses under the dash and checked what i believe is the fuel pump fuse (pass side fender, orange and red wire coming from the connector.) and all are good. next im about to jack it up and disconnect the fuel line from the filter and see if she squirts when i turn the key on.

 

ok, i ended up disconnecting the two fuel lines going to the tbi unit where they go from hard lines to rubber right by the drivers side exhaust mainfold. when i turn the key on, no fuel comes shooting out. is my fuel pump bad?

 

I'd put a voltmeter on the fuel pump power lines next and see if its getting juice.

ok checked that. i unplugged the connector under the car by the gas tank and put a voltmeter on it with the key turned on. i got 0 volts on one of the posts, and about 6.5 volts on the other. my battery im sure is a bit run down from cranking on the engine.

does this mean its fuel pump time??

 

You need to make sure the battery is charged up for this test. If its charged, 6.5 volts is too low to be getting at the connectors, so either your wiring or connectors are funky or the pump is bad. Make sure you are getting a good ground with your voltmeter when you make this test. If the power going into the pump is disconnected it should show your a solid 12 volts. If it goes down to 6.5 when connected (and the battery is charged), again either the wiring/connector is bad or the pump is bad, check the wiring first.

well i had a shaky ground, the voltage was fine. changed out the fuel pump today and now she runs great. what a pita.
