Help save the life of a 92 TBI V8 CAMARO please!!

can someone please help my car. i recently did a tune up- and changed cap and rotor, plugs, wires, fuses, and batt. When i start the car the rpms shoot up and it idles at 2000rpm's. i took it for a test drive around my block and while giving it gas it seems like it wants to go but instead it moves like a turtle, it takes way to long to build up speed. i took the air cleaner off and the tbi unit is shooting alot of gas into the carb. i think it may be the idle air control valve but would that also effect my cars inability to accelerate, please be a guardian angel someone and help with this very frustrating problem, i am in love with the camaro and id hate to let her go!!!!

Dude when you pulled the cap did you turn it by accident? If so your timing may be waaaay off. Just throwing that out there.

no i cant say i did and i cant say i didnt, however i can check, and if that was so how do i fix the cap, like i just put it in the way i last seen it from what i remember. which way should it be pointing etc., do keep in mind i am the second owner of this car and i just began to rebuild it. if there is anything wrong it was like that before i ever touched it. theres is a loud hissing sound but only from the over spray of gas coming from the injectors, im hoping its not a vaccum leak but theres always a possibility right? thanks for the help in advance guys!

mine hisses when i first start it then when warm ticking sounds comes from the tbi setup this is the norm i do believe, however if all yours is doing is running very rich at idle at 2000 rpm even when warm you might have unhooked somthing around your tbi theres two inlets on your tbi setup i do know that if ones unhooked it could make it run very very rough if this is any help two you good luck

Re: Help save the life of a 92 TBI V8 CAMARO please!!

thought the distributor cap was screwed in on both sides and the connectors could only go to one side--so not really able to twist the cap around.. and the button is stationary for the most part... Check and make sure you put the wires back on in the correct order (one at a time, marked...firing order is kinda important)... and check the vacuum lines also, you may have broke one or unhooked it by mistake.

My MARO did that once, idled at 2000 rpms... but would take off okay, and idle without missing... just high idle... had to replace the throttle position sensor. that fixed it right up. dont know if the IAC would affect idle/take off performance either.???!?!???. My map line was broken one also, and the idle was jumping all over the place nearly stalling---and threw a SES light too. I dunno--sounds like mixed up spark wires.

There is a bolt under the cap and if it is loose you can turn the whole assemply by accident throwing your car way out of time. Check that. Check ALL vacuum lines for that hissing, make sure your firing order is straight, and re-pull the plugs to look for fouling.

Re: Help save the life of a 92 TBI V8 CAMARO please!!

I have changed my whole tbi unit, the problem i believe lies within the egr valve. I am going to change that and the eecs canister this week and update everyone just incase this problem happens to anyone else!
