Air Cleaner Lid Too Tall?
i have an annoying problem. i put on a 14x3 open element air cleaner, i removed the spacer ring, and it's still too tall for the stud to go through the lid! right now i have it tightened with the air cleaner lid upside down, but i want it done the right way. is there a way to extend the stud? will a flat lid such as the k&n extreme work? im so aggravated

Go to Home Depot, Buy a longer stud, bend to match and cut to length. Take the old stud with you so you can match the threads.

Re: Air Cleaner Lid Too Tall?
well just twist the rod and loosen it just like it was straight. there is some room for it to be higher. Be careful of the injector wires though.
That's what i did, but then again the lid then hit the hood which caused me to flip it upside down again.
Be very careful of the clearance. I know my setup is different but room is at a premium. (have a L69 w/ a non drop base attached at the bottom and a much bigger than stock air cleaner that sticks out by two inches beyond the top of the air base. I'm doing the extreme lid next for lots of flow)

If you get a drop base aircleaner, you would not have this issue, although you would have to keep the restrictive "ring" inbetween the aircleaner and TBI.

OH yeah, a hacksaw to cut it to length after you bend it.

Re: Air Cleaner Lid Too Tall?
and with the top that flows it will be more than enough. I still say take the spacer out (if you have a non-drop base and unscrew the stud a little and it will fit fine if it is only 2.5" tall.

Re: Air Cleaner Lid Too Tall?
To fit 3" with good hood clearence the flat base needs to be adapted to its lowest (3mm over the trottle linkage). Or flat flat and grind the trottle lever like some heawy-metal tgo member.
Looking forward to see your set up

Re: Air Cleaner Lid Too Tall?
any ones of what work??? no links up there.
the "Z-Stud" is 1/4" coarse thread.
IT's up to you, but have you removed the hood insulation?? I'd leave it if its still neat and intact. If its tore and fugged up, then take it off. That'll help a little... but beware of water dripping back in on the distributor===most everyone says that it stays dry after doing it anyway. I havent removed mine cause its still neat.
I put on an air inlet system, ""ram air box" and had to modify the fiberglass. it's got a 6" inlet on it, 14x3. it's a little excessive, but is way functional. I'm kinda pissed that it wasnt ready to slap on--and i had to get stoned from the fiberglass compounds. Damn those lazy aftermarket middlemen and their generic promises.
