TBI injection on 355 vortec with LT1 cam, issues?
I need to know what to expect, i usually do carbed but it is my wifes 86 TA and i want it injected for he dependability.
First off, it is a TBI 350 from a 90 chevy truck with original TBI harness and TB, it runs great but smokes like all hell apon fire up from the old valve guides.
Now, i have a set of ported and polished vortec heads i had on a 383, the might be excessive but i am not re using the swirl port heads.
It is a vette LT1 cam, vortec heads, .030 over block, 9.7 to 1 forged pistons. I bought short block for 300$, i know it doesnt need the forged slugs.
I hear that you dont even need a tuned chip for a LT1 cam swap sometimes, sometime i hear you do, i found nothin really useful in a search so i am asking for the TBI gods help for answers. I hope for 300 HP but if it falls short no biggie, i am sure it will make 350 ftlbs. It has headman shortys and Y pipe for the exhaust too.
What you think fellas, will i have hell with a unburned chip? I will be using a performer intake with the adapter plate for the TBI.

Your not going to be able to drive that with a stock tune, it will be an undrivable mess. You can make it work wiithout egr, but you will sacrifice 2 or 3 mpg.

Who is the cheapest for burning a chip? I heard in the past there are burners who just need to know what the specs of the motor are and they get it right on the first burn, then of course you have to re burn every time you do a major mod but i will be leaving it alone.

You're going to have to learn to tune your own chips. Was the car originally EFI or carbed? Your going to need to install at least a TPI fuel pump. Also bump up the fuel pressure. For injectors you could probably use 65#/hr or 90#/hr big block injectors.

To make a long story short I installed the exact same thing but with 1.6 roller rockers in 2001 or so. Had a prob with the block and installed all the parts on a 305. Mucho tuning so far.... so you be the judge. It ran but not well at all and that's what started me with DIY tuning and I am still trying to learn. But the old 305 I have does haul axx and get's around 20mpg with mixed driving. If you catch on well you can do better...........

I myself was not trying to discourage you but just a dose of reality. Don' t get me wrong when I say "still learning". That's a good thing. If I had went carb yes it would have been easier but it would also not taught myself [with help] about what fuel or lack of does and the same goes for timing.
In my case, with my wife's 84Z fuel injection would be great but, with what it came stock with has never gave a minute of trouble. I'm not gonna push my luck and have issues with her car even after changing engines in it. [soon]

Well, i think a fuel regulator with return style setup and a holley 650 woll do just fine, i dont havr the time money and patience for the injection then.

Ive tried hypertech, and tbichips, im on my 7TH chip, so in short NO they can not burn you a good chip that way. My car runs, but not good at all. Carb is much cheaper and easier to work with. Thread Starter

I am EXCELENT with a carb, so i am just finding a 650 holley on Ebay and a return regulator. The regulator returning so much fuel will not burn the pump up i am sure right? Arent they only good for 15 PSI?

Yea, we have it, what about it?

Will car pass inspections with a carb? visual or sniffer? or both. Wisconsin Metro Milwaukee only does sniffer per my experience with OBD1 systems in past.
