TBI Camshaft confusion
ok, im wanting to upgrade the cam in a friends TBI 305, ive heard of the benifits of an LT1 Cam, but i dont want to go used and it sounds like they arn't a very aggresive power gain.....
i understand the engine is a roller motor.
what im asking is what cam should i choose for a fair to rough idle and get decent power gains between 1500 and 6500. my buddy wants something loapy but not oo loapy we stll need to pass emmision in mass...( well until sept.) any help would b e awesome
the car has a 3000 stall converter as well......
thanks again

Re: TBI Camshaft confusion
Is he using stock TBI heads? If so, I'd strongly consider swapping heads before using any cam larger than the LT1 cam.
With the stock TBI heads, regardless of the cam, you won't see good power up to 6500rpm.
A 3000rpm stall converter seems to be a big mismatch too, if he's got stock TBI heads. He'd be losing out on most of his powerband, considering peak torque is somewhere between 2400-2800rpm on those engines.

Are you going to beable to tune or retune the ecm?? If not you may as well invest in the equipment to do so and learn how before doing a cam swap. Also the 300rpm converter is not a good match until you do a decent cam in the 225/230 ish range duration at .50 lift. To high a stall for a street car. There are lots of cams available with the sound and performance you want. But an intake/Heads would be the first uprgade's to get tuned in and then do the cam to match. Just my thoughts. What is the intended usage of the car?? Street Street/strip or daily driver and some street/strip??

Re: TBI Camshaft confusion
Crane Cams makes a couple of roller camshafts for your application. I got one 214/220 with a 480" lift. I must say, the power increase was a pleasant surprise.
