Heads and cam for 350 block

Ok, i keep reading through posts about people getting new heads and new cams and all that happy horse crap. So it got me thinking about this upcoming winter and tearing into my cars engine. I have a 95 truck block 350 in my 89 RS right now. It was rebuilt a couple of years ago and only about 2500 easy miles have been put on it since, so the bottom end should be in pristine condition. So im wondering with the Holley TBI and my ability to tune my chip, what would be a good direct bolt on head and cam combo upgrade for my car, i have headers also. Some part numbers and links would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Edelbrock makes some nice head/cam combo's. You also have the Fastburn heads. Its all in your budget if any.

If you know how to tune your own vehicle, you may want to try some Vortec heads. N ot sure if you have emissions or not. The intake may be a little pricey. Take a look through a Summitt Racing catalog. That should get you mind going.

Vortecs and something in the 224/230 range cam would be my choice.

Man I need a weekend like that......lol

I'm not sure on the truck years but if the engine is tbi.....no. If it is the newer style injection they are the Vortecs IIRC.

The cam choice is why I asked about the gears. How much cam do you want to use and what do you expect from it? [How are you going to drive it? Drags or just puttering around?].

I ran the Vortecs with a 3.08 for years with an LT4 std cam. Ran good once I got the timing correct. With gas the way it is I might reinstall the 3.08's...........

More of less just putting around, but something that would give it some pep. And i think the truck the engine came from had that fuel injection, like the single big bore throttle body.

If the intake looks like this and has 8 straight down bolts, its vortec. Some of the 1996 vintage GM vehicles had Vortec heads and TBI (fullsize vans G-series). From 1996-1999ish GM Export trucks built for the Mexican/South american market had a complete L31 engine running TBI.

Chris.....if your info is correct...[not saying you are not].....you need to write a TBI book.

XJ it sounds like you need an intake and a cam. You need to choose what cam you want........then hold on.............

Also my intake has the bolts that bolt straight down into the head not on the same angle as the intake plane on the head, understand what im saying?

XJ....I sent you a PM.

The cam needs to be thought through as far as how the cam will perform and what work will be necessary to run it with the heads that you have. [Stock Vortecs]

Are you willing to rework them to run any cam or do you want something that will 'fit' within the lift limit of the heads as they are now?

Vortec heads have four bolts per side that are "straight down"
