ECM removal
Hey guys. Yet another dumb question. I am trying to get the ECM out of my 91 RS to see if it was swapped when the previous owner put in the 350. I found it in the passenger side kick panel and it is in a yellowish plastic bracket. I removed the screws that hold the bracket in place and that let it drop down a few inches. I can't figure out from there how to get the ECM out. I felt around trying to remove connectors to free it up and none came loose easily. I can see some electrical tape on the wire bundle at the top so I am afraid there is some kind of hack job that I am going to pull apart.
I also tryed to pull the metal case out of the plastic bracket with no luck. I am probably missing something obvious here, but I don't want to force things.
Whats the trick to getting them out? Shoud I be trying to remove teh metal case from the plastic frame, or trying to oull hte whole thing out together?

Re: ECM removal
the metal case(ECM) should pop out of the plastic bracket the holds it up under the panel

Re: ECM removal
Are there any screws etc holding the metal case directly to the pastic bracket, or do I just bend the tabs and slide it ou. Should I be trying to pull it straight down to get it out? Again, i tried nd felt like I was going to break something. Thanks for the quick reply.

Re: ECM removal
NOw htat I have the ECM out this seems like a really stupid question. but, here's why.
The plastic frame was stuck because some unrelated wires had gotten looped thru it. And, I cuoldn't pull the ECM out because it was glued into the plastic frame by some thick black putyy or glue. I guess tehy probably came from the factory like this. Took a lot of effort to ri it out. The access panel over teh chip also seemed to be held on by an adhesive and I had to pry it up with a screwdriver. I can only guess this all means it hadn't been opened since it left the factory. ANyway, thanks for the help!
