ebl cam break in?

So I'm almost done gathering all my top end parts to bolt onto my Lo5 block and had a thought about breaking in the new cam. How do you go about this if you dont have a tune for the new parts yet? I think the procedure is to run the motor over 2000 for about 20mins to properly break in the cam? Any thoughts?

Brokenparts

There are couple of ways of breaking-in flat tappet camed engine. Ideally, you want that engine to run a bit richer then normal, at about 2000 RPM for about 20 minutes. This will keep combustion temperature down while lifters -cam are being broken in. Just make sure that exhaust manifolds (or headers ) are not glowing! Keep an eye for usual problems low fluid levels, leaks, overheating!

1) Install a carburetor and rich in up jets couple of size up. This may not be practicable if you have TB only manifold - OEM.

2) If you have EBL ECM you can force close loop AFR from 14.7 to about 13.0 - that should keep motor happy during break in. Get WBO if possible to keep AFR lower.

3) Limp mode in a stock ECM also forces a rich condition. Depending how far is your motor away from stock this might be enough.

Re: ebl cam break in?

excellent thank you... my only worry was the motor not being capable of reaching 2000rpm with the ebl. I do have my EBL currently installed. I am running an open element filter and headers (the ebl actually helped with even these minor mods). Hopefully the tune I have now will be close enought to keep the motor running at 2000 when I swap over the heads, cam, intake, tb, and fuel pump.
