fast burn 385 hp
fast burn 385 hp
hi guys,
I am looking to swap out my engine which is a 305 tbi.
Guys I have spoken to at speed shops and GM want to sell me a crate engine with a carb. I was pretty up front with them and said I wanted to keep my TBI.
Anyways I am shopping around and checking out a bunch of crate engines.
a few caught my eye the 350 ram jet, 2 383 strokers and a couple of 350's and one of em is in this link http://www.jegs.com/p/GM+Performance...10002/-1/10763.
How easy would this one be to tune?
I will post up a couple more links as I find em and any advice on tuneabilty would be appreciated.
I am looking for 330 to 40o hp. Also when I do the engine swap I am thinking of putting in a ecm out of a 95 tbi truck. From what I have read in tgo it has a reflashable prom and the processing time of the ecm is much supieriour to what is stock in my 88 iroc.
thanks guys

Read the sticky "Budget TBI buildup". You can use the 95 truck ecm but you'll have to re-wire a bunch of stuff. I wouldn't even dream of tackling that one but that's just me. I use the EBL. Plug it in(no re-wiring) and tune. Plus with the engine in the aforementioned sticky you'll get a lot of tuning help on this board because I know many members are running this combo with EBL. Just a suggestion. You should get the ponies you're looking for with minimal headache.

what is ebl exactly?
The prom in my ecm is of the non flashable type.
If this ebl overides the stock ecm with its own parameters then it is similar to a power commander I had on a motorcycle, it over rode the stock ecm with its own fuel curves. You just stuck in what ever maps and files and tweaked it as you went with a lap top and also it showed quite a bit of info on the lap top while it was running.
Anyways I am quite adamant about sticking with my TBI and not going to a carb.
I was going to build an engine but I decided a crate engine was the way to go. I build enough stationary engines in my job.................

Thats the EBL site, I have the EBL flash. It replaces your stock ECM and you just plug your laptop into it and you can get all the info from the engines sensors and tune it, once you make a new file, you just flash it to the EBL and your ready to go. No need to replace any chips or burn new chips, or anything like that.
If you get the EBL flash and a wideband oxygen sensor, you should have everything up and running in not to long.

Does the ebl working with tunerpro data log and come up with the bin files and then you just flash em?
Also with my ecm in the 88 iroc apparantly is pretty slow does ebl speed things up?
it seems to piggy back onto the ecm
Re: fast burn 385 hp
I just got my ebl a couple months ago and have been playing with it with my pretty much stock Lo5 block (headers, open element, exhaust). Just running it with the minor mods got a good result. The ebl is pretty straight forward (i got the plug and play version) and has a good tech software included with it. Any problems I've run into have been addressed by Rbob or others pretty quickly. I wouldnt hesitate for a second buying an ebl... I couldnt be happier with it and I'm a complete newb. The ebl pretty much "tunes" itself, I just use tunerpro for finer tuning and to turn things on or off such as IATs, VSS, egr, etc.
