Should this set up be running sweet with stock tune?

My set up is Edelbrock TES Headers,Cat removed and pipe welded in,Edelbrock Exhaust, Crane 20/20 cam,Stock L98 heads, March Under drive pulley, edelbrock intake manifold, some TBI mods (spacer etc) and a Thermostat.

Now I know these are not the best of all the Mods for making power. From what I have read on hear and other forums the cam is only slightly better than stock, the edelbrock exhaust set up makes little power and the heads are both 58cc. Therefor I have a slightly over stock car so I was wondering will this set up run fine on a stock tune? Will get much of a lift from a EBL and a tune?

Re: Should this set up be running sweet with stock tune?

Ok Good news I just bought some 55lb 5235206 350 injectors from Motor Man fuel injectors today. I hope I can make 250hp With a custom chip/tune.

Not trying to be a jerk, but as far as I can tell, you won't be able to get to 250rwhp with stock heads unless you port them. That cam will yeild you no gain over the stock cam. Alot of people on here had that cam and got rid of it because they saw maybe 1hp over stock. Also, that pulley will yeild you nothing and the same goes for the theromstat. You'll see some gain with the manifold, but you will lose some mid to low end power. You'll not notice any gains with a TBI spacer and injectors. In fact, those 55lb injectors are what the 305 came with stock. Stock 350 injectors are 61lb.

The best case scenario with these mods plus an EBL and tune is about 180rwhp.

If you can, get a set of Hooker 2055's ( http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku). They are 1-5/8" primairies with 3" collectors and 3" Y-Pipe. Get a good 3" cat back exhaust and 3" highflow cat too. Do the ultimate TBI mods to really clean up and improve your TBI. And finally get an EBL and tune it really good. This will get you to about 200-210rwhp, be emissions legal, and allow you to get more out of your heads when you port them.

Are you sure about the injectors? I thought stock injectors were 40lb. I dont plan on spending any more on modding this engine. I am going to get the most out of what I have got now with good tunning and right fuel mods to support this set up. Also I was not planing on 250 RWHP, 250fwhp is great if I could get it and that I think I have got a chance at.

Yep, here's Fast355's thread on injectors:

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tbi/...injectors.html

Is your motor a 305 or 350?

I don't know. I've seen that thread before and apparently that chart is wrong. Alot of people have thought that the stock 305 injectors are 40lb but nearly everyone has told me that stock was 55lb for the 305.

Re: Should this set up be running sweet with stock tune?

Well Brian at TBIchips told me to buy the 55lb ones as as the stock ones are 40lbs and 40lbs is not enough to support my set up. I will contact the injector shop now and see what they say.

Re: Should this set up be running sweet with stock tune?

they are for sure 350 injectors "206", but i think they are 61 or 65 lb/hr. i recently discovered that there is a real confusion on here about the injectors.
i asked our almighty knowledgeable RBob and he was saying that the "279" injectors, 305 stockers, were 55 lb/hr.

if you still try to do this without the EBL let us know how it went. are you getting a chip from tbichips? in this case let us also know how long it took Brian to get it right.

Re: Should this set up be running sweet with stock tune?

Ok well I getting confused about the injectors I have sent mail to TBi chips and Motor Man Fuel Injection Supply I am waiting to hear what they say. I will go with the 350 "206" injectors anyway as my mods are not going to put out massive hp. I hope they are 65lb.

At your place I would use the stock injectors. Smaller injectors with higher pressure give better air/fuel mixture.

Im using the stock ones with 21psi FP tuned as 55lb's, Duty Cicle is around 85%@4500rpm.
