89 TBI Problem

So i'm going on the highway a couple days ago and around 70mph i start to get this "giving out" feeling from my engine, it feels like its not getting the proper amount of fuel kind of sound it gives me and feeling, because its like a heaving action from my car giving a frontal jerk in a way. This has been happening a couple days and i just swapped the distributor coil to see if that would be the problem but its not. I'm curious if anyone could help me with this asap?

Sounds like a transmission problem.. What's the fluid like? Burnt? Low?

Re: 89 TBI Problem

Really the transmission fluid could be doing that? Well my father did replace the gears in the rear of the transmission for the speedo to work.. I don't know if that affected so much of the fluid. I'll have to double check about that.. Is there anything else it might be?

Usually burnt fluid means your tranny is toast.. We've got a work truck that around 80km/h it jumps and kicks around like it's trying to find the 4th gear.. maybe thats all it is?

I'll check the fluid, but its only at about 70, after my father worked on the tranny just for the speedo gears in the rear. Thats when it started to do that, a couple days later... but i'll check fluid

Re: 89 TBI Problem

I went to warm my car up this morning let it sit for 5 minutes then checked the fluid. It was like cherry red and bubbling, but i didn't have anything to my convience so i drove to school then checked it, this is like 25 minutes later. It was just natural and see through but dark, not clumping or like burnt. I don't think its the oil... :[ Anything else it might seem like?

Re: 89 TBI Problem

Acts like it's starving for fuel? Possible deteriorating distributor ignition module. Will behave okay at some lower speeds until the module becomes saturated with heat. Module will eventually fail. This is one possible idea..

Re: 89 TBI Problem

What coil did you replace? The external coil or the ignition module inside the distributor housing, under the cap?

Re: 89 TBI Problem

Ignition control module is under the dizzy. If this goes out at all, your SOL and your car wont start.

Do you have full performance or does it feel like its missing a ton of power?
