I just got a pair of 062 vortec heads they will be milled to 58cc because I'm going to put them on my 305. My question is should I port and polish these or leave them alone get a valve job, valve spring kit, mill them and bolt them up. I've been reading alot most studies are done on 350's but they don't gain hardly any from porting. So I was just wondering. The plan is to get the vortec cyclone manifold idle-5500, and the 08-302-8 210/220 tbi cam from comp cams 1200-5200. I already have every bolt on and the 305 was rebuilt 4 years ago and runs perfect. I'm going to get ebl and dial in what I have already and then do the modding , but I just wanted to know what others have done and if it was worth it or not. Thanks for your help. I forgot I can get a zz4 cam for free but theirs not many ppl running them in 305s so not sure about that just throwing that in there.?

 

I was wondering the same thing. but along with you i'm curious on what should i look towards for vortec heads for my L03 305? Its an 89 tbi, so i'm wondering on intake manifold and what type of vortec heads, and i was planning on getting new springs and arms , and seats,too just to freshen them up.

 

vortec heads ending numbers 059, 062,or 906,intake any vortec compatible will work carb ones will need tbi adaptor, sdpc spring kit.

 

whats the difference from all those vortec numbers? and is there a way to understand heads a bit more, with about cc and other mathmatics to know what would be best for me? also knowing about lift, etc...

 

i guess i have alot more research to do.. i was gonna slap a set on my 350. why wouldnt they benefit as much from porting work?

 

They do some just not as much as others because their a really good casting.

i read most of it, and why does it not explain about having my computer re-programmed? also anything to explain to me about cam lift, cc, etc? so i have a better understanding what i'm purchasing and looking for? so to say more performance for about the same mileage i get currently.

Get EBL and tune your courrent set up, you will gain power, better fuel economy and answer your question.
