do you think i got ripped off you tell me.

i bought this car december 2009 for 900 he wanted 1000 but then said 900. lets go over the problems with this car.

engine dont run worth a damn, it needs new front brakes, front shocks, tires all around, headliner, dashpad, windshield, hatch pull down unit, interior in trunk, trunk carpet, both headlight motors, alternator, the air cleaner unit, marker lights, parking lamps, driver side window, horns, fuel filter, gas sending unit, speedometer, rear passenger seat belt, back seat, wheel lug studs.

the body has rust underneath and the roof has lots of dents on passenger side, the door lock mechanism is broke on driver side, the hood dont close all the way and the front bumper is all bent.

i think i was an idiot to buy this for 900 especially this bad shape and with the lame 305 tbi.

what do you guys think?

it is fun and i have had lots of fun and met some very cool and helpful people on my way to fixing it. like on this website lots of people have helped me so far and it needs a ton of work but i barely have money or the time for it now that things have gotten tight around the house with the budget

I'm in the same boat, but I think putting her back together and the end result will make it well worth the headache. Be sure to post pics upon completion. Mine I project to be ready for Spring 2011.

Well, go with what your mind says not what your heart tells you. Whatever you decide, best of luck. God Bless

trust me this is far from a rare find. its just a common 305 tbi lol. im either going to sell it or just move it to garage and strip the car of everything and start a real project.

Re: do you think i got ripped off you tell me.

My Firebird was in a very similar shape when I first bought it...very clean, but needed plenty of work. $300 for it. I paid $800 for my camaro (2.8) and it ran, had new tires, new radiator, and other new parts and no rust, I've put another $700 into it. I honestly think you were ripped off...especially for a base model (both of mine are base models). But, it might be easier to get running perfectly for cheap. I've put only $75 into mine so far, it runs almost perfectly. Just needs brakes, front tires, and steering box.

My firebird has sat for over a year, finally saved up money to fix it. Sometimes it just takes time, be patient, it will run eventually.

Worry about the things that keep you safe while driving, carpeting and interior trim are low on the priority list...get that engine running, fix the brakes, get new tires, fix the headlight motors, and the seatbelt. Stuff that really matters when you're on the road. Check u pull it/pull a parts often! That's where most of my stuff comes from.

Re: do you think i got ripped off you tell me.

i would say sell it , why ? because by the time you get it running " not looking good " you will have put more than 900 bones , i bought my running with no rust for 800 and it ran great for awhile until i blew a headgasket ,took it apart ,put it back together , never ran the same again... , but in the end it comes down to how much are you willing to spend just to get it running and its just not money its also a huge time investment. shocks alone will run you 45 to 100 dollars each. a brand new dash pad goes for 500 from classic industries . same goes for the sending unit , unless you have lots of luck @ the JY .

Re: do you think i got ripped off you tell me.

For me, this is what is nice about these cars, they are cheap and not overly priced.
You can get a nicer one cheap!

It is always about rust for us in the north. If you can not restore yourself, it is expensive. Most people into cars can fix motors and stuff but trans can also be expensive.
I would say the a complete rust free car with a bad motor and trans is worth at least $500. You southern guys have more to choose from.

You can not say that about the older muscle cars but I love them too!

I would not trade my 89 for anything...(well maybe not anything) but I did turn down 4500, and it is an LO3....Thirdgens are getting harder, and harder to find around my area...Those in the junk yards are pretty picked over...In a few more years their value will go up.....I could have bought a new car for what I have put in to mine, BUT it would not be a thirdgen...They have a life of their own...It was the best 1200 I ever spent to get my Camaro.....When people tell me to have a good day, I just smile...lol....Tom
