Not that I know of. Here is a link to the custom CAI I made back in 2005. It has been working like a charm ever since.

Oh yeah. You're not up and running yet? That K & N setup was for a carbed engine. Have you switched to a TBI. If so hook that baby up and let your engine breath.

No smog stuff in California? You must have an Inspection hook-up, or it isn't a street car.

Re: cold air kit for tbi?

that cold air setup is nice if you have a camaro. not so helpful to us firebird owners as our header plate doesnt have those holes in it. i wanted to do this but the only way i see is moving/eliminating the charcoal canister and running somethng into the drivers front corner. but there isnt a whole lot of air movement there either. right now i just have a 2 inch non drop open element on. if i cant figure something elso out ill just remove the choke plate and get a 3 inch filter. but id rather have the cold air coming in. any ideas??

Use the TBI cap I showed above, then build the tubing & mount your filter like this, with the charcoal canister relocated or removed.

Re: cold air kit for tbi?

ive relocated my charcoal canister to between the front bumper and the core support. worked out real well. underneath where it was mounted is some sort of round canister of some kind. i have no idea what it is or what its for and its in the way of running the air tube through that sheet metal. any idea what it is? i can post a pic of it later if you dont know what im talking about.

A black ball? I believe that is the vacuum canister for the cruise control.

Your Air conditioning controls.

It has 2 screws holding it in, just remove it, and move it somewhere else, drill 2 holes where you want it mounted, and mount it up. Doesnt really matter where you put it, just make sure you put the vacuum line back on it.

Hate to disagree with you but.....

The day I got clipped on that corner, my cruise control went out & my AC still works fine. That tells me that it is more likely a cruise control related & not a HVAC (Heating/Ventilation Air Conditioning) related item.

Re: cold air kit for tbi?

cool thanks for your input! would you recomend me using an open element w/ a 3inch K&N filter with the choke spacer removed or using the setup like what is shown above? im torn. i know going open element is putting hotter air into my engine but its a crap load more air! and going the other way is colder air but less of it. not to mention the open element is much cheaper. i think i saw one of those adapters that go on the throttle body selling for $100.

Its the backup resevoir. It depends on how long you had it unhooked. I also think it only affects the controls of the AC, not the compressor, or anything like that.

I have no first-hand experience with it myself. I have never had a thirdgen with working AC, or Cruise.

Re: cold air kit for tbi?

any input on which air intake setup is prefered? i like the look and sound of the open element with the 3inch filter but i know colder air is better for the engine.

CAI will be better. Remember that the hotter the air is, the less oxygen that is in it. So no matter how much volume can go in, if there is less oxygen in it? The extra air is doing you no good. Then there is the cooling issue. The hotter the air is that goes in, the more work your coolant system has to do to keep the engine cool.

I'll take a smaller CAI intake over an open element, any day of the week.

Re: cold air kit for tbi?

If your running a stock unit than I would want to address the problem “now” with a $25.00 open element using the paper filter that comes with it. Being careful you can remove the cowl weatherstripping from the bottom of your hood and that will be a outlet for hot air. This way your not out a lot of money when/if you decide to build a CAI.
