91 Firebird 5 speed TBI. Has a 92 Camaro 305 under the hood.

This connector wasn't connected to anything before the engine swap, so I don't even have a reference point.

Where the heck does it go?

It's to your IAT the sensor in the base of your air cleaner.

LoL well that could explain my SEL, and running rough (slightly rich).

However, how the hell to plug that thing in when this is my air cleaner?

I know what u mean when I pit my open elment in I drilled a hole for my sensor and plugged it in

Where? I can't really make it out from that pic. I'm guessing you took the bottom plate and just drilled a hold big enough for the sensor?

I'm really hoping that if I do this, the SEL shuts off and the engine runs right.

I have the timing set as exact to 0* as I can get it.

Not sure of fuel pressure, what it should be, or even how to set it.

Injectors seem ok (although I can smell fuel while running).

Meh, I'm just throwing ideas out there. Time to order an IAT sensor.

Yea it's under I have my idle set at about 8 advance. Have you done a major tuneup as well as check all vacuum lines too

yeah you need to have it plugged in...deffinately better to have it mounted in the air cleaner

neither one looks like the one on my 89 tbi camaro...could be different for that year though?

The one you posted from rockauto is the air temperature sensor that activates the thermac. Wich you do not have anyway with the open element air cleaner.

The other one you posted is for TPI, at least the one in the pic.

Yep, that one in the link you posted is close. I went to Advance Auto and they had to order it. It came in tonight so I went an matched it up to the loose connector.

Perfect fit! So, then I drilled a hole in the bottom plate of the open element and voila! Then, I plugged the connector in and snapped off the gray retaining tab

Doesn't really matter as it's still pretty tight. I'll get another connector from the j/y if really necessary.

Otherwise, that's just one more thing off my "to-do" list for my Firebird.

Yes, it's not the EXACT sensor. The one I have is a little shorter and has a plaster washer molded into it. The connector looks the same but the point is mine installed and working now.

It's a 'air charge sensor' cost like $20.
I had the same question about it in my car. It measures the air time to control Jim much fuel is pumped out

I'm on a iPod doing all of this so it's hard to type.

No clue. How do I check that?

Sorry for not being clear. That sensor let's the injectors how much fuel to pump out.

So in the absence of that sensor, could the engine get really BAD fuel economy, and run extremely rich all the time?

That's what was happening. I haven't had a chance to take it for a test run yet but I might today

LoL if you're referring to me, this Firebird will likely be sold before I get a chance to pretty it up.

Why are you selling it so fast you clean that up though you make a couple extra bucks.
