Re: stock lo3 cam?

Yes a flat tappet cam will fit in place of a roller as long as the lifters are changed to flat tappet lifters as the roller lifters will not work.

Make sure you break the flat tappet cam in correctly. 2,000 rpm to 2,500 rpm for 20 minutes straight immeditaly on start up varying the the rpm between 2k to 2.5k over the 20 minute period. Also get some high ZDP oil for the first break in. Regular oil does not contain the amount of ZDP it use to and the first 20 minutes of the cam's break in determine how long the cam will last.

Have fun!

Downgrading to flat tapped would also require to set up for a cam button.

If you have a LO3 keep it roller, that's about 30-40hp reliable easy HP over the flat tappet cam.

Also used LT1/LT4 cams have wirtually no wear at all and go for around 20-60$.
The whole roller lifter set up including the roller lifters from the LO3 can be reused too.

LT1 cam swap guide https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tbi/...-ultimate.html i did this as first mood with the engine in the car, quite easy.

Not true.
Flat tappet cams have always been designed to not "walk" by having a slight curved angle on each lobe to stop the came from walking out. Roller cams on the other hand require either a cam buttom or cam lock plate as due to the manner of the lobe having to be a rolled flat plain for the roller lifter to ride upon they could not design the lobes to have that angle since flat tappets are simply pushed by the lobe instead of the lifter rolling over the lobe in the case of roller cams.

Yes a roller cam will make a slight amount more power due to the ability to have a faster ramp in rate compared to a flat tappet cam. But flat tappets are cheaper to buy so it's per user to decide what to set up.

You could be right, I may have got that mixed up.

Yes they are not worth much.
Since it's going in to a LO3 it will be extremely hard to beat a used 20-60$ LT1/LT4 (not hot) roller cam, in all aspects.

Every cam worth swapping to will require fuel delivery adjustments and coustom tune.

Re: stock lo3 cam?

If the reason for the cam swap is for increased performance, fueling and tuning are a must.

Here you can check what to change for the LT1 cam, easy using EBL flash https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/diy-...o3-lt1cam.html

Not sure what you intend with "tge".

Agreed. Its hard to pass up the value of a good used LTX cam when it allows you to reuse your stock lifters. Cam swaps are cheap for these cars, tuning on the other hand can be expensive. Both in money and time. EBL is worth every penny if you want your car to drive like stock, however you have to be willing to invest yourself into learning how to tune. If you are not willing to do so, do not attempt a cam swap.
