Anyone ever try this before?

I was looking through some TPI pictures and some corvette pictures on google and had a thought
Why should we be the only ones to have the bulky air breathers? And think of another way to get more air induction as apposed to the expensive ram air hoods and cowls

Why not make something custom out of different parts from K&N and places like that
Ive found some cold air intakes for larger trucks but even those average about 200 bucks
Ive looked on summit and on K&N and found almost all of the pieces to make the same thing. and for under 70 bucks
Anyone ever do this? I remember seeing a corvette on here a while ago with a similar setup that my buddy with a silverado had
Something like this but sleeker

Re: Anyone ever try this before?

the TPI cars (and v6 camaros) already have cold air induction. the design you showed is not an improvement over the stock setup

AH, I thought he was wondering why Camaros couldn't have the same intake as the corvettes... I still think of corvettes as being TPI cars

A little bulky air cleaner, does not look to bad either on these old school cars. Gives them a slight nostalgic look.

I have never found a decent carb/TB hat that looks really good, DIY was my only choice, with the big issue of fitting a decent air filter somewhere effective.

Re: Anyone ever try this before?

The picture on the right is the Silverado setup? That would almost be a straight fit on a TBI car.

@ Thomas, the first setup looks stock, and with that looks quite good.
The second setup looks to be far more effective. Just a little out of place in a third gen engine bay.

Re: Anyone ever try this before?

the picture on right would be ideal. if you were taking in cool air there. which I guess you would be with a TBI camaro or firebird also.

Re: Anyone ever try this before?

At leastthe camaro takes cool air from behind the headlight unit.
It´s the same location as the stock TBI CAI connects to, just covers a larger area.

Re: Anyone ever try this before?

The "airaid" on the left is not ideal for pickin up air on the drivers side, the injector pod will be obstructing flow.

Re: Anyone ever try this before?

Some of the Caddy's and other GM cars had 'hats' on the TBI that were very similar - just need the piping and filter to attach to them. But I think they were too tall to fit under a stock hood. But anyway, could experiment with a $5 JY piece rather than an expensive Spectre or other brand carb hat.

5.2/5.9 Jeeps and 02-03 5.9 Dodge Rams had a similar bonnet on them.
