few 305 questions

first question is on the cruis control i understand the vacumm pulls the throttle but when cruise is not ingaged should the vacumm be pushed when throttle is open? second question my idle is good maybe a lil high butwhen i put it in drive it kicks down and is a up and down idle. not like a vacum where its reall bad its just rough a lil bit up and down. wont seem to settle.

Re: few 305 questions

Cruise doesn't move the throttle (no pulling/pushing), it simply uses vacuum to hold the throttle at that position really more than anything.

Re: few 305 questions

thanks the reason i ask is when i bought it it was hooked up so that when the throttle was opened or when you push on the pedal the linkage on the cruise control would push the vacum in. i didnt think it was right but just checking. any ideas about idle ?

Re: few 305 questions

Well, yeah - when the throttle moves the cable moves the rubber 'pillow' in/out of the vacuum unit, but when cruise is activated it just kinda holds it where it at.

The throttle moves the cruise, not the other way around.

I'd start by looking for vacuum leaks, watching injectors (should spray a nice cone shape pattern), checking timing, maybe MAP sensor, TPS adjustment or IAC cleaning.

Re: few 305 questions

Well the way I have it hooked when you push pedal it doesn't push the vacum in only when cruise is on doues it pull it. So what is it going to do when I'm driving if that isn't being pressed down when I accelerate? Does it affect anything?

Re: few 305 questions

so timing is set no vacumm leaks i fixed the cruis control linkage for now still want to konw what it does if you hook it up the other way. i adjusted idle so it idles nice but now it dies alot when i shift into reverse. the truck runs great when its drivig pulls hard . i just rebuilt the motor and had new heads put on . i think its tps or the iac . guess ill just have to save cash and buy some sensors

Re: few 305 questions

TPS can be adjusted, and IAC can be cleaned. Lots of threads here about both procedures, just search.
