Re: cam advancing?
Advancing cam timing will give more top end power. Retarding will give more bottem end power. Doing either with out a degree wheel while building a motor can cause horrible engine damage...

Re: cam advancing?
Eaglemark has it back wards, adv. the cam boasts low end, retarding it helps top end.
You can get away w/ 4 degrees either way, unless you have a wild cam.
A a timing chain wears, it stretches, it retards the cam.
On a street motor, I'd go w/ a fresh timing set & advance it 2*.

Re: cam advancing?
ya eaglemark was backwards. Advancing will drive the powerband down and vice versa.
It's not worth it for a stock cam
