not getting Fuel. Fuel pump?

I have put a 305 tbi into a car that I believe the previous own had carbed. Iam not getting any fuel after the install. I pulled back the carpet and found this.

I see a grey, a purple, and a black wire. Where do these wires go? Id like to track them down and be sure they are connected properly thanks.

Re: not getting Fuel. Fuel pump?

black is the ground.
grey ran to the original intank electric fuel pump to power it, from the original oil pressure sending unit that was located above the oil filter.
purple is the sender wire to the gas gauge.

Awesome so just ground the black and make sure the grey is getting power while the key is on? The unit above the oil filter was recently broke off when I was dropping the motor in. Should I replace this immediately?

Re: not getting Fuel. Fuel pump?

I put a hot wire from the battery to the red wire shown in the picture above. I heard the pump come on. Shouldn't I be able to start the car while its hot? I'm not get fuel out.

No but, the same unit also has the sender for the gauge built into it.
The fuel pump is controlled by the FP relay (which is controlled by the ECM). The oil pressure switch is a redundant power source (or, fail-safe if you so like to call it) for the FP and can be thrown in the trash.

Re: not getting Fuel. Fuel pump?

Looks like a stock fuel pump. The wires have all been cut but I will fix them and reinstall all this and hope it works.

Re: not getting Fuel. Fuel pump?

Since you have it out, I'd replace the fuel pump NOW. That might be the original pump, and no telling how long it will last - you are already here, might as well replace with a good new pump and save yourself dropping the tank again next year.

Ha ha yea I'm starting to think so. I've always wanted kids but times like these I'm glad I don't.

Re: not getting Fuel. Fuel pump?

Rent the neighbors kids for a week - you'll soon change your mind!

I know about rug rats too ... I have 5 boys ...

1 is mine from my 1st marriage
2 are my wife's from her 1st marriage
2 are from my wife's 1st husband, from HIS prior marriage

They are now 16, 17, 18, 22, 24 - the youngest being mine own.

Kids are like dogs ... they are cute as hell when they are puppies, when they get older you just want to take them to the pound

I'm being silly, ignore me. I really think everyone should personally endure the hardship of kids and wives at least once in their life!
