1.6 rocker arms?
will they work with stock heads and cam ? if so what do i need to put them in ?
Re: 1.6 rocker arms?
Your money would be best spent on headers. The issue with the LO3 isn't increasing the lift or duration (though those are awful too), it's the design of the heads. They are restrictive at higher rpms. Swirl ports are great for low end torque for example, truck motors. But, as you get to the higher rpm's the design defeats itself and the engine in essence chokes because it won't flow any more.
Put an open element air filter and headers and that's about as good as it gets before making major changes.

Re: 1.6 rocker arms?
1.6 rockers are fine, but you won't really notice anything. You basically have 3 options, which are 1) standard stamped, 2) roller tip, and 3) full roller rockers.
Stamped are same as stock, stamped steel, just the higher ratio - cheapest.
Roller tip are like stamped, but have roller tips on them, so they don't wear like standard since the little roller tip rolls on top of the valve - just a tad higher price than stamped.
Full roller are held in place with a bar, all the rockers attach to the bar, and they swivel on the bar rather than moving like a lever on a fulcrum - most expensive, no benefit on anything other than a seriously built motor (ie big waste on a 305)
Heads - you move into dangerous territory with heads. The TBI chips can "learn" to cope with a few mods here and there, but anything beyond mild cam, exhaust, and maybe intake, and your into custom chip tuning. If you can do it, great. If YOU can't do it, hope you have another car to drive, because your looking at weeks/months or longer of downtime while you try to get someone to program a half-way decent chip for your car when they can't even hear it run, or feel it run - based solely on data streams collected by you. It took me 6 months to even get a chip that would allow the car to run at all when I played with my 305 TBI 5 years ago, and it never ran great.
Folks always want to "mod" the 305 TBI - but there's not alot you can do to it, and no one wants to accept that fact. If I had a dime for every $100 spent by TGO members to mod a 305 TBI, I'd be a rich man. Sad part is, in the end they are all disappointed - the few that were not are the few that knew up front they were never going to get 350 power out of a 305.
If you are restricted to keeping the TBI because of local inspection laws, you should look into a 350 TBI swap. If not restricted, then you should look into any other motor that appeals to you and your wallet. If money is no object, go LSx - for the money it takes to get 300hp out of a 305, you could easily get swap to LSx that will be way more reliable, easily make 300hp, and have the potential for another 150hp with bolt-ons.
The reason alot of say that modding the 305 is a waste of time/money is because we've been there, done that, learned the hard way, and just hate to see another try.
Good luck!

Tuning with EBL flash is not hard, tuning for power, yes, will take some time and experience.

Re: 1.6 rocker arms?
I'm not going to try to convince you one way or another, but almost everyone that says they want to keep their 305 says the same thing as you. Most of the V6 guys as well. I use to be one, so I'm speaking from expierence. Being different doesnt mean its the best idea. In the end your just going to have more money invested and less power. 305's are a dime a dozen so its not like its a rare motor or anything like that either.

Re: 1.6 rocker arms?
yeah your not too far in stop while you can and go LSx. When I started doing mine. I was like well if I can run a 14 to satisfy my racing itches while I restore my old dodge charger that will run 11's I'll be happy....Well damn I wish I would have known I wanted to go faster than 14's....I guess I still could go LS1 or whatever. But im already a rebuilt engine, rebuilt transmission, etc in....oh well.

Re: 1.6 rocker arms?
ok so i have been thinking and comparing parts and it does look to be cheaper price to power for an lsx than to build the 305. so if im going to do the lsx conversion what things am i going to need other than the motor ? will the t5 work or should i get the t56? what about the computers and stuff what will work and what wont?
thank you.
thank you.
