Should I get a X-fire z28?
Ok guys, I'm new to this forum, so if this is a repost or a stupid question, I apologize.
I'm a big thirdgen guy, my last Camaro was a 1983 five speed Z28 H.O. with an l69 4bbl 305. I sold it cuz I needed money for college. Loved the car, it was beautiful and clean, I tihnk it had 80,000 miles on it when I got it, and like 90k when i sold it. I bought it for about 2000 cuz the fuseable links were blown and the guy thought something serious was wrong with it. $20 and about an hour's labor later, drove it for two summers and sold it for 5000.
I MISS MY THRIDGEN.
I recently inherited some money and I'm looking for another car, but I can't find any clean ones out there that aren't super expensive. I found one black Z28 with 80,000 miles on it, the only difference between it and my H.O. is that it's auto with Crossfire Injection.
It's basically flawless, and the guy wants $3000 for it, should I go for it? I hear mixed reviews on the CFI engines, but I only drive about 5000 miles a year during the summer, and I had no problem working on the H.O. when it had issues.
I don't really care about performance, to be honest, my previous Camaro dynoed 178hp at the wheels, and it didn't bother me any. As long as it looks badass and has a good souding exhaust and gets fair gas mileage (I averaged 18 in my other Z28) that's my big concern.
I appreciate any input, like I said it's $3k and I only will be using it for cruising.
Thanks guys!

crossfire is two throttle bodies on opposite side from each other on the same plenum. so both have to be tuned and working exactly like the other. your right on the mixed reviews part though. some people dont want to hassle with them because performance wise there are much better options available. and mileage i think would be slightly worse. depending on where you live check for rust issues since its an earlier thirdgen, but you proabably already knew that

sounds like a steal for $3000
i swapped crossfire onto
my z28 over 16yrs ago and it has been very reliable
only a couple minor problems over that time span.

Go for it! Crossfire is unique and there are actually some good high performance parts out there if you eventually want to make the car run faster.
With 80k miles, it is very likely you will need to have the throttle bodies rebuilt. The throttle shaft bores wear out pretty fast and air leakage past the throttle shafts will cause the engine to idle poorly and run inconsistently.
For information on the unique aspects of keeping a Crossfire running well, join The Crossfire Injection Forum at www.crossfire.homeip.net There are a few things different about tuning a Crossfire and a lot of that info is on the forum. Also, get a Camaro shop manual as well. All of the tuning procedures are outlined in it.

Thanks for your input you guys! I appreciate it.
I went and bought the car, and I must say, it's immaculate. Much cleaner than my last one, and the engine has plenty of pep and life to it. Driving it to Spokane from Yakima, I got 24 miles per gallon too, so it seems it's been well cared for!

Here's a pic I managed to get off my phone. Took it just after washing, waxing, and detailing the car. All ready for prom lol.

well at least it wasnt his fault, way to many cases of people letting family drive there cars and then they are destroyed. good its not too bad though

Since the other driver is responsible, hopefully you can get the car fixed up right by a good shop. If the paint was bad to start with, might want to see what it'd cost to have the shop do a full repaint instead of partial (if that's what they want to do).

Damage isn't terrible, but the car's all original and in mint condition, so it's sure a bummer
