Replacing throttle body?

How hard, and expensive is this?

A beater camaro recently went for sale locally, and it's a manual!!! So I'm wondering how much this might be to repair? I've never had a manual, and really want to learn.

91 Chevy Camaro RS for sale. it has the 3.1L V6 and an manual transmission. needs bodywork and throttle body. fix her up, or use her as a great parts vehicle $500

Re: Replacing throttle body?

3.1 L is MFI not TBI. It is a multiport EFI system. Replacing throttle body (inlet) should be straight forward - disconnect hoses, cables, connectors, unbolt - replace the unit and reconnect.

Re: Replacing throttle body?

I'd think a throttle body itself is more of a cleaning job, maybe rebuilding job with new gaskets, rather than a replacement job. But chances are, more than likely it needs a new MAF screen, or have the screen cleaned, maybe new sensors. The "body" itself consists of little more than a tube with a butterfly valve inside as far as I know (but I've never been inside of one). Regardless, the JY should have plenty - keep in mind you can shop JY's nationally using the parts finder, as long as you get a JY willing to ship to you.

Re: Replacing throttle body?

The 3.1 doesn't have a MAF, my 92 has one. It's a speed density motor and has a MAP sensor instead.
