TBI vacuem lines? and location of PCV valve

alright in arguement sakes, let's say I know nothing but what the pcv valve does, I just found out that you can't use a carburated set up air cleaner on a TBI. I have put the original air cleaner system back on. But didn't take off from the start of the engine rebuild. So from books and observing I'm confused of where the pcv valve is actually located on a 91 Chevy RS Camaro, I did put vortec heads on the 350 that was put in the car, the valve covers would only go on a certain way so that put the PCV valve on the passenger side of the motor, would the heads off the 305 make it any different??? There are I believe 4 lines in the front of the TBI and 3 in the back, I looked at the pic in a TBI stick thread but I'm still not certain on any of them, I do not know what the abreviations mean. Can any one help me out on the problem I'm having? I would appreciate it , Thanks

Re: TBI vacuem lines? and location of PCV valve

PCV itself goes in a valve cover - doesn't matter which one, but in stock form it is in the pass side cover, and the hose runs up to the stock air cleaner on the pass side, and attaches. Where that hose attaches, there is a small white filter inside the air cleaner housing.

You can use any air cleaner housing you like - you just need to get a chunk of 3/8 fuel hose and make a new vacuum line from the PCV to a vacuum port on the TBI. Also, make sure to replace the IAT sensor into any new air cleaner housing you choose.

it does not attach to the air cleaner, it attaches to the tbi in the middle on the front. pcv always has intake vacuum going to it.the white filter nin the air cleaner goes to the valve cover as well as the pcv

The pcv valve is on the passanger side of my motor but, so is the air port in the air port in the stock air cleaner I've got. So should I hook the pcv valve up to the air port and the other hose on the other side to the TBI. I must have a 400 TBI not a 300 cause I know there are 3 lines on the back of mine, because I had to block off the middle one cause it made the motor stall out when I had a hose hooked up to it. Never figured out what it went to??

You're right - I remembered wrong! It's been a few years since I had a TBI under my hood!

Correct the actual PCV valve is in the drivers valve cover and the vacuum hose goes to the front of the TBI unit. Its the biggest port. Pretty simple. The white crankcase filter in the air cleaner connects to the passenger side valve cover.

I take it that the pcv valve is the valve with the metal housing around it going into the valve cover? and the valve on the other side has the plastic rubber grommet?

Re: TBI vacuem lines? and location of PCV valve

your are correct about the pcv. It also goes into a grommet though. On the front of the drivers valve cover. The rear of that same cover is where the oil fill is.

The other side also has a grommet. from the factory there is a 90 degree metal tube with a piece of hose going to the air cleaner. where the crankcase filter is housed inside the air cleaner.

Re: TBI vacuem lines? and location of PCV valve

thank you very much for the info, I did deeper research and gave a chevy dealership my Vin # and it ends up being that my cars pvc valve as stock is located on the passenger side valve cover near the front of the motor. The ventilation tube is located on the drivers side near the back with the oil fill hole near the front. Not saying anybody is wrong because I believe it depended on what seventh digit either E or F you have on your Vin, the person I talked to asked. thanks again

Re: TBI vacuem lines? and location of PCV valve

hmm. okay. that is weird. If I did mine that way I wouldnt be able to fill the engine oil because the diverter valve and heater valve would be in the way. But okay! haha. Good work.
