i just got done doing my 203 209 dur and 450 461 lift lt1 custom cam in it and all i have to say about the performance difference is....eh.
i was hoping for a vast or even more noticeable difference but alas i am seriously dissapointed.
now granted i have not done the headers or the chip yet but still eh.

Re: lt1 cam
my everyday driver is a 97 gtp and it beats the brakes off my firebird.
so i am just dissapointed that my everyday driver is a hell of alot faster than my project car.

Re: lt1 cam
so if you take that 201.5 and add .15 percent to get the fly wheel hp thats like 232 hp and 308 tq to the fly wheel

Re: lt1 cam
putting the cam in is extremely easy, i would say the hardest part i had was putting the timing cover back on. other than that i had no issues with anything......scratch that, getting the lifters out was a nightmare. i had to use a lifter puller. real pain. they slid right back in though.

Re: lt1 cam
what all did you have to take off did u reuse your lifters did you buy new valve springs go here and he can burn you a cheap and your car will run tops http://www.tbichips.com/305mods.htm you might wanna change your tq converter to if u have a auto that is im really surprized how much power i got since stock is 170 hp at 4,000 rpm and tq is 255 at 2400 to the flywheel how long did it take you to put that cam in?

Re: lt1 cam
since im in the military i rarely have time to work on it, it took me a week lol.
but if i did it at once it would have been mayber 5-8 hrs. not too long.
i reused the old lifter after i inspected and cleaned them and i used to stock springs, just a simple cam swap. i took out the radiator, condensor took off the water pump, intake manifold (all that is included. tbi etc) valve covers, rocker arms and all that good stuff. while i was at it i took the air conditioning out of it (made it easier) just make sure you have a harmonic balancer puller before you start and a long bolt to help get the balancer back on, because it will not ( despite popular belief) slide back on.

Re: lt1 cam
if i were to go with 1.6 rockers i would have changed the springs, the cam lift is within the realm of the stock springs and they were in pretty good shape so they stayed. plus when i was finishing the job i realized i had to sell the car. now i just need to find headlight motors lol

Re: lt1 cam
of course youre GTP is faster than your bird, theyre supercharged and make almost 250 hp. GTP's are a mid 14 second car while a stock L03 with only an LT1 cam and no tune will run bottom 15's, maybe a high 14 at best.

Re: lt1 cam
a drop in ET of at least 5 tenths without even tuning on only a cam swap isnt a highly noticeable difference? youre hard to please. try throwing in an open element, lower thermostat, underdrive pulleys, headers, and some gears and see if you notice a difference then.

Re: lt1 cam
shi%, just to get the 2.73 out of it i would notice a difference. it's not that im hard to please it is just that this thing is retartedly slow espescially just throwing a bigger cam in it. i would like to at least be put in my seat alittle. i think i am using backwards thinking though. i did the cam so the engine can use more air/fuel and didn't bother changing the intake or manifolds so i think that i have accomplished the harder half of the battle but now i just need to do the easy things ie air cleaner, headers, manifold and chip. but since i am selling the car to a buddy he will get the easy tasks

Re: lt1 cam
yeah, getting those damn 2.73's swapped out was the best thing ive ever done for my car (until now). it really made the car feel like it could actually do something. but all the little things ive done do it, like what i mentioned above minus headers, add up too. the thermostat alone was worth 3 tenths in the 1/4 and the open element helped give it some life in the upper RPM's.
