Timing Help please,......
Hey guys well I finally have time on me hands and some cash. Ready to put this Sexy on the road and Burn some Rubber.... So I forgot to mark my Dizzy when I took her out for replacement. So I have then read and was told it goes between plug #'s 1 and 3 So this is where I have her. Car starts up no problem or when I sit the dizzy in the location I believe she goes.
Now when I put the car in 1st gear, she loses all power etc..... Also I have no Timing tab, Is there a way to adjust the timing still? And how would I achieve this? Thanks guys.

What position were the crank and cam in when you installed the new distributor?

1) Pull #1 spark plug
2) stick finger in the hole
3) rotate engine by hand (need a helper) until you feel the air pressure on your finger.
4) use a straw, stick it in the spark plug hole, turn the engine one direction then the other, just slightly, until you get the straw at the highest point out of the hole (the straw rides on top of the piston - when the piston is at it's highest point, the straw will stick out the farthest).
NOW you are at TDC #1 cylinder on the compression stroke.
5) remove distributor cap - where ever the rotor points, that HAS to be the corresponding number one spark plug wire on the cap.
6) route remaining plug wires in firing order
7) replace #1 spark plug
NOW you are set at a timing of ZERO (factory specs for a TBI). You can adjust to a slightly higher timing of like 4 degrees advanced, but without a timing tab, you'll need a dial-back timing light to know exactly where that is.

Re: Timing Help please,......
I have the same problem going on. Only when I did mine, I based it off of Spark Plug 2 and the rotor was facing towards spark plug 1. I set the dizzy for spark plug 2 and routed like that for the correct firing order. Now it starts, but any touch of the gas and she bogs or dies. I know the timing is off. Now if Cylinder one is at TDC the rotor should be pointing at Cylinder 1 correct? If this is the case, I can just pull the rotor and set it so the mark on the rotor is facing Cylinder 1 and all should be fine right?
