my first (yet small) mod

Well i just replaced the air cleaner on my 1990 rs. I wasnt able to remove the stock gold riser cause i couldnt find a non-drop air cleaner anywhere. But it'll do for now. This is the first mod ive really done to the car so far but i got a set of hooker shorty headers and matching 3" y-pipe waiting to go on once i find the time.

downside though is it kinda makes the rest of the engine look like crap lol, i cant wait to get rid of all that A.I.R. pump crap

I definetly feel a difference in throttle response and it used to feel like it kinda stutered and that went away

Re: my first (yet small) mod

Nice mod, I have the same cleaner in chrome, soon to be replaced with a black one (no chrome in the engine bay). That single mod gained me 10 horseys on the dyno. You'll do well to add headers and upgrade your exhaust system.

I've since transplanted a 383 where the 305 used to be. Here's my 383 almost finished with the same air cleaner (but chrome), just needs to be tuned to drive it.

Re: my first (yet small) mod

Wish I could tell you. I've been trying to get a build sheet from the builder but no luck. The only specifics that I know are Scat rods and crank and Speed Pro pistons, Vortec heads, Vortec intake for TBI, don't even know the cam specs, but I suspect everything is pretty much stock.

If that was for me, I drilled a hole in the bottom of the air cleaner base and installed like stock.

Re: my first (yet small) mod

No they don't. I had to run a tube from one of my header primaries to the intake manifold, which has a place to screw in a fitting for the tube, you can see the tube running along side the driver side valve cover.

why is your top radiator hose sitting on top of the alternator and not on the support?

Re: my first (yet small) mod

I painted all the brackets before putting them on the motor, including the tensioner - aluminum engine paint. Painted all the pulleys black. As for the bottles, I stole the idea from a fellow Cascade Crew member and painted them black, but I'll end up with new ones before long

Re: my first (yet small) mod

So i got a question, ive been tryin to find what intake to, i dont think my car has egr, i aint really checked but from my engine pic compared to al hasse's i can see what i believe is part of the egr towards the front of the intake which i dont see on mine, so any opinions on a good intake manifold?

Re: my first (yet small) mod

You should have the EGR just behind the throttle body, that's where mine used to be before I changed the motor, it might be hidden by its solenoid. I have a Vortec intake and heads, the intake put the EGR in front, and keep it and use it, I had to plumb a tube from the headers to the intake, the heads don't have the passage for an EGR.

Re: my first (yet small) mod

i got a correct one from goodyear like 4 months ago fits just fine, the problem is you tell them 305 and they look it up for a TPI motor not a TBI motor. mine ran just like his (over the alt. before i fixed it) and when i checked the part number on the old hose it was for a TPI not a TBI car.
