No Fuel at Injectors
No Fuel at Injectors
I have a 1989 5.7L TBI that will not start. There is no fuel spraying out of the injectors when the engine is turned over. I've done some reading and checked the following things:
Ignition Control Module-had this checked at Autozone 6 times and all checks passed. The guy said it was getting nice and hot.
Pick-up Coil-I checked the resistance on this and it was 788ohms, which I understand is good? The plastic connector on the pick-up coil was crumbling and the leads to the coil may have been arcing out to the plate under them. I sealed up both leads with heat shrink tubing to isolate them.
Spark-I have a good white spark from the coil wire to the distributor. The spark at the plugs is orange. Cap & Rotor???
Fuel Pump- I can hear the fuel pump turning on when the key is turned and I am getting some fuel pooling on the top of one injector by the wires. I think there is a bad o-ring.
Does anyone have any advice on what else I should check?

Re: No Fuel at Injectors
I thought I had a defective TBI, so I swapped on a different (used) unit. One injector didn't fire. Swapped the wiring connectors from one injector to the other, but the same injector wouldn't fire.
As I was working on it, engine running on four cylinders...magically the stuck injector began working, and has been fine ever since. Apparently it was varnished up, and it took awhile to get the solenoid to move.
No matter what, you're going to need to seal that fuel leak.
Injectors not pulsing
Update:
I removed the ICM and had it tested at Autozone 5-6 times and it passed each time.
I tested the resistance of the Pick-up coil and it came in at ~788 ohms.
Checked the fuel pressure to Throttle Body and it was right around 11psi.
Checked all fuses - OK
Checked the Injector plugs with NOID, no light.
Checked purple/white wire on distributor plug with 12V, and no light or injector pulse.
I am getting good fuel pressure and an orange spark. No injector pulse. Any thoughts?

Re: No Fuel at Injectors
With the key-on, my test light comes on for #481 & 482.
Also, the NOID light does not come on when the engine is cranked.

Re: No Fuel at Injectors
The ign control module tells the ecm to ground the injectors, so if the injectors are getting 12 volts & you tested the icm 5 times then its most likely a bad ecm. Test the ecm grounds first & make sure the ecm is getting the proper voltages to run it, this includes 12v & 5v.

It could be your VATS. I have a 92 305 TBI that did the same thing. It would crank forever, but never fire up. I bypassed the key resistor and put in resistors under the hood and it fired right up. Might be something else, but something to check.
