Engine bogs at 110mph
Any help I have a 91 rs camaro with a305 I just replaced the Rearend an put 3.73 with position. Here's the problem at 110 my car bogs down like it has a governor on it.Any help with this I'm stumped everything was fine until I changed the gears. Or is it that the tbi can't keep up .

Re: Engine bogs at 110mph
possibly an rpm deal with the speed. there is a limiter on it. what are the rpm's when you get to 110. if it was stock then i am sure it is a lot higher with 3.73 from the 2.73

Re: Engine bogs at 110mph
That's sounds right to me the speedometers did change after that. You think I should go aftermarket with a distributor an change to a carburetor
Re: Engine bogs at 110mph
get a custom tuned chip. brian at tbichips can get you one. it will be a generic type tune but it will get everything squared away. unless you want to purchase a cable, tuning software ( free i think) and an ebl flash ecm and start learning.

Re: Engine bogs at 110mph
Naw I just did the gears last week. An hadn't really pushed it until the other day an notice it. How can I get the speedometers accurate because I'm barely on the gas when the speedometers hits 110 an I have more pedal room so I'm not going that fast. I can't even race anything on the freewaygas because of it.

Re: Engine bogs at 110mph
No need to spend crazy $$$ on a custom tuned chip for just defeating the speed limiter. You can defeat the speed limiter for like $2 & have it work only when you want to or be limited if anyone else drives your car (son/daughter/valet/mechanic).

Honestly I don't care about knowing exact speed I just go by other people on the freeway.I just want this limiter off completely for 2 bucks that's beautiful. Whatever that's stock that's causing it I want to remove it an make a table weight with it.

Re: Engine bogs at 110mph
Theres no good reason whatsoever for a TBI car to be at 110 MPH.

Re: Engine bogs at 110mph
Be careful what you wish for. With a carb you'd lose tunability (power, MPG) and you'd have to fab a lockup switch for the transmission, as it would no longer lock up in 4th gear due to the absence of the electronics necessary to tune it. If you plan on staying with the 305 or going with a 350 it would be a good move to keep the TBI and tune with a chip or EBL Flash ( www.dynamicefi.com )

Re: Engine bogs at 110mph
The limited speed was because of the speed rating of the tires on that came stock on TBI equipped cars. It was for your safety, not because GM was being mean.
So yes, there WAS a good reason.....To save yours & others that were crashed into, lives. So don't go defeating your speed limiter until AFTER you have the appropriate tires.

Save your money and put it towards EBL Flash- chips are expensive and won't allow you to accommodate for your mods

Re: Engine bogs at 110mph
If it helped save an innocent pedestrian or family you run over driving like an idiot then it would help a lot more than turning the speed limiter off. It's all about perspective.
Top speed runs are for salt flats, and going 110 mph is a 1/4 mile track day goal, not something you do on public roads.

Re: Engine bogs at 110mph
Yeah, whats w/ that crack about "no good reason whatsoever for a tbi car"? You can say the same about any engine, just because it was simplier efi system doesn't mean it can't perform. I'll betcha alot of guys don't put z rated tires on their tpi z28s at the time to change them.
