Coils on TBI

Hi, I'm currently installing an open element system and am wondering about the coils. The instruction guide i'm looking out is very clear not to let the base touch the coils. Are those the multicolored wires coming up, or is it something else? Also should i cover the driver side hole where i removed a vaccum with something?

Thanks!

They sell small bags of vacuum caps real cheap at your local auto parts store. Any hose nipples that are exposed from the throttle body must be caped with one of those. The only hose that should be coming off the TBI is the one connected to the bottom of the stock base you are removing .You don't have to push the cap all the way on .I just go about half way with the cap so its easier to take off when necessary.I'm using a drop bottom base with a 1/2in. plastic spacer to elevate it off of the linkage and the coil. My bottom of the open element(base) is close to the coil wire also but not touching. Even though I still have the wires(mane coil wire and smaller wires) wrapped with plastic wire loom and the bottom of the element closest to the coil is covered with electrical tape.

So the coils are the middle part on what I put the open element on right? There's 4 wires total and those come up to connect to two metal things? Are those the coils?

I started my car and test drove it and everything seemed fine, as in no electrical arcs or anything

Re: Coils on TBI

i'm pretty sure what your concerned about are the fuel injectors on the throttle body . the ignition coil is what the instruction sheet for your new aircleaner refers to . look at your distributer , center wire on the cap runs to the ignition coil . good luck .

The yellow box in the photo (yours will be black if its stock) with the red coil wire coming off the middle going to the center of the distributor cap(again yours will be black if stock) is the wire they are concerned with. You don't want it touching the bottom of the new base plate you are installing. Mine is missing a good inch so I would consider that OK. Even though I still covered the bottom of the base plate closest to the wire with electrical tape.
