Truck 305

Ok here's a post everyone has prob seen befor. I have searched and haven't found my answer so I am going to ask directly. I have a 91 Camaro convertible with as you know a 305 TBI and a 700r4. It has 163000 for miles on it but it is running awsom. It does blow some blue smoke when you first start it in the morning. It doesn't even leak a drop. Well I have found a very low milage 1988 305. It only has 35k on it and it is complete and I mean drop it in complete. But here's my delema it is out of a truck. Is there any difference? Do I need a new cam to make it work in my car? I really don't want to spend the money. The motor is only 400 but if I have to put a bunch of money into it that blowes the good deal. So if anyone knows what should I do? Is it a good deal? Or should I save my money and put a 350 in it.

Re: Truck 305

you will need your oil pan. you might look to see where the sensors are mounted and check yours. and you need to see if the tbi has the right throttle arm mounting for your cables.

Re: Truck 305

Truck oil pan will fit just fine, if it's from a half ton 2WD pickup. Truck cam will also drive just fine, but isn't roller-lifter like the car version, so I'd save the cam, lifters, pushrods and front thrust plate from your original engine. Those roller lifters are easily disassembled, cleaned, reassembled and reused if they're not damaged. But don't try putting them on the truck cam.

Re: Truck 305

I've been talked out of it. I will just keep the engine and not buy the new one. When this one finally goes I'll stick a 350 in it. This give me time to find a good one to rebuild. Now can I put my TBI on a LT1 motor? Should I just find a TBI 350 and rebuild that. Or can I use an old carberated motor and put mt TBI on that? I want to keep the injection and all the computer stuff and make it as stock as possible.
