91 rs back firing not running right

Mods:
LT1 cam
ADS superchip
Edelbrock headers - 2.5 inch y pipe
no cat
3 inch exhaust
80 series flowmaster
350 injectors
Ultimate Mods
New Plug wires
new Cap
new Rotor
New AC delco Plugs

Car misses on acceleration and back fires when I let off the gas. Not always just occasionally. The backfiring was louder at 8 degrees advanced, I now have it back to 0 and it still backfires not as frequent. The car does not pull like it should

Code

32 and 42

Please help, I looked trying to find someone with same mods and same problem. I am leaning towards new distributor and new coil. I had the coil measurements checked and they said it was okay. I am also gonna add a 3 inch hi flow cat in a couple of weeks. Thank you all in advance. Suggestions????

MAYBE. but electricity unless it is touching something may not do it. bet hey stranger things have happened. if any of the wire strands within the wire where the cracks are are broken then there will be less electricity allowed to move across there.

Code 32 LOL!, the EGR valve bolts we hand tight. I could wiggle the EGR valve. So I tightened the nuts and have not gotten the 32 since. Code 42 has not come back either. Now for my backfire, I am convinced it is because I am running no cat on this car. I am getting a cat and installing it tonight. Thanks for the ideas...

Headers with 2.5" pipe all the way out. No cat, backfire isn't a issue. Check on the inside of the cap. Clean it out. Also make sure the spark plugs are all connected properly. Also, the firing order should be 1,8,4,3,6,5, 7,2, check on you intake manifold to be sure.

In addition, check the cap, and coil for any cracks on it. Even hairline cracks can allow moisture to get in there and cause you a world of backfire problems. Don't blow your money on a cat thinking it will fix it.

Re: 91 rs back firing not running right

Well I did what everyone would tell me not to do, but I am not trying to get a $1000 fine in the state of Az running around with no cat. I added a 2.5 inch high flow manga flow cat. It seems as though i got a little bit of torque back. Since the edelbrock tbi manifold and lt1 cam it seemed as though I lost torque. I know the power shifted to 2500-3500 rpm. So, I still have a back fire not as bad though. I am running real rich too. So, I remembered I had a 160 degree thermostat, why I put one in there I don't know, trying to stay cool or something. Since my last post , I changed the fuel filter (which had not been changed and was clogged- could not blow through it easy) and I put a 195 thermostat. I also took the lame ADS superchip out, and put the stock one in. I advanced the timing to 8 btdc and it seems to run a little better. I found that 1 of my new spark plug wire had a tiny crack, i got zapped messing with the timing, changed that out. I think I am gonna do a tbichip. However need to make sure there is no backfire, will drive it today and see if it is gone.

Re: 91 rs back firing not running right

By the way, my backfire does not happen until 3k rpm and over. I read that the pickup coil could have something to do with that. The distributor looks a little worn down, the car has 195,000 miles on it

Re: 91 rs back firing not running right

Light out pitch black, found a spark coming out of the coil. Put a mad street fire coil. I also polled the ads superchip out, car was running crappy. Put the stock chip in with 12 degree advanced. Runs good, we will see how she runs tomorrow....
