should i get the ac delco ep 241 fuel pump?

im fairly sure my pump has gone bad.it won't run.when you crank it it barely idles surging up and down.i changed the tbi unit to another one i have.no change.it runs good for a moment when gas is poured into the tbi.i put a guage at the new filter and and cranked it up.it had four pounds of pressure that dropped immediatly when it stalled.so i thought if im going to change the pump id use the tpi pump for future mods.is it completely bolt in?has anyone had problems doing this?thanks.
who carries these?the pumps at advance auto have different model numbers.the bosch pump got good reviews.any opinions on them?

I got the EP381 is that cool? I bought it from eBay and only paid 42.50. It was a buy-it-now auction with make offer option. He took my offer rite off I should have offered less.

If your plug is scorched, you may want to figure out why before just replacing it. Usually things like that are caused by a short in the circuit somewhere, although I'm thinking a failing fuel pump could also cause it. If possible, please post a few good quality pics of the burnt plug.

Re: should i get the ac delco ep 241 fuel pump?

GM/Delco/Delphi has more fuel pump part numbers than you can shake a stick at; and absolutely no guidance on WHAT is different among them.

All I know is that the original fuel pump in my truck had a 3/8 outlet to match the 3/8 tubing of the sending unit assembly, and the EP-241 I replaced it with had a 5/16 outlet. I had fun finding a suitable hose to fit the larger-diameter tubing while still sealing on the smaller fuel pump nozzle.

ep381 is for the later vortec engines that run near 60 psi. that pump is rated for 70 psi. not sure if it will work but it could.

Re: should i get the ac delco ep 241 fuel pump?

i found the problem.i noticed that the gas tank was all scratched up while removing it.apparently someone replaced the fuel pump before and used the one that comes with the bad hose.the hose between the pump and sender plate had burst.i read somewhere that some replacement pumps come with a bad hose.im going to change the pump anyway.the problem is finding as local source for ac delco parts.

Re: should i get the ac delco ep 241 fuel pump?

well the pump supplies the volume the regulator determines the pressure. but too much volume and the stock return system cannot keep up. I would run the pump that people recomend instead of opting for a cheaper option that may not work. especially with the amount of work it takes to drop the tank out.

Re: should i get the ac delco ep 241 fuel pump?

very true. restriction causes pressure. im sure it can be toned down to work. just not sure if the system will handle it with a stock regulator.

Re: should i get the ac delco ep 241 fuel pump?

I ran a Walbro 255 for 7 years and it died. I'm debating the ep241 vs ep381 now.

Did you check for codes? My car is throwing a code 54.

This is the vortec pump. Even higher output than the TPI. You should be fine.

Re: should i get the ac delco ep 241 fuel pump?

i installed the ep241 pump.the problem was a busted hose in the tank.i could have just changed the hose but i hope to swap in a 5.3 later.no problems using the ep 241 pump so far but i lost the gas guage during the swap.good thing i fixed the trip odometer a while back.
