Code 53 vats?

When I first got my camaro it was horrible 211,000 miles high beams weren't working window didn't row down on drivers side no exhaust bad fuel pump bad speedometer headlights on right didn't work it was a nightmare. Car now is a lot better rebuilt engine all light fixed including high beams replaced fuel pump fixes speedometer and window all on my own except engine rebuilt thanks to this site. Now the camaro is acting up again it started after I went to go get my haircut it was giving me trouble starting the starter sounded like it didn't have any power and was killing the battery thankfully it turned on and I got home . After I ate supper I turned the car on and after a sec it stalled . It did that 3 times and now it cranks but will not start also I got two codes 33 and 53 I know 33 is egr soloniud and 53 I believe is the vats system because the starter runs but it doesn't turn it on. Where do I begine

You ever figure this out? My son has a 91 with code 53. I was thinking it had to do with the VATS.

Re: Code 53 vats?

When its the VATS system all the miscellaneous items radio, lights, etc.will work but other than that you will get nothing,no engine trying to start,no click ,absolutely nothing. When you think it may be VATS than there is a 5 minute waiting period that must be done between attempts or your wasting your time.If it is the VATS system acting up at random times then I suggest a "VATS bypass". Type "VATS bypass" into the search feature on this site and you should get all the information you want on the subject.
