I have a 86 iroc z28 with the stock 305 tpi and 700r4 trans and I am wondering what the top speed is?the speedometer only read 85 mph.

I'm not sure if the "86" came with a governor but if it did than its like 110mph .Other than that it has a lot to do with rear gear ratio (maxing out) and tires and there condition/ rating.

I raced a grand prix today, like a 04 and I lost him.we had do be over 120.

 

Your speedometer stops at 85mph, what makes you think you we're doing 120mph? I think GP's are governed as well, I don't know to what speed. GM governs most everything pretty low, except for the obvious, ie ZR1 etc. I don't know for sure even for our cars. Someone here knows or has posted it in the past. A search should turn something up. And you say you have a stock TBI 86 camaro? Sorry, they didn't come that way yet...still carb'd. Or tuned port. If yours is that way someone changed it.

 

Mine is tuned port..didn't mean throttle body...well, we were flying past cars and the speed limit was 75.. so I know we has to atleast be doing over 120..I use to own a r6..I know what it feels like to go that fast...I found my answer, top speed is 145 mph.

 

140mph! let out after that. I have a tpi speedometer out of a 91 police rs. haven't had a reason to do more.

Mines tuned port...not throttle body.

 

my limiter has been removed for years.

 

how did you remove it?

 

You can disable it bye maxing the cut off in the $61 mask or install a toggle switch on the buffer to ecm vss signal.

 

I'm gonna be throwing in a 383 stroker anyway...305 isn't fast enough, although I have won a few races.

I wasn't trying to start anything but he was asking about his 86 305 tpi top speed not tbi so it needs to be moved???? Because I'm not learning anything about my lo3 being there was not a lo3 in 1986 and no way was a car OEM with 85 speedometer doing 120 really that's Why it has a 85 speedo right but I'm out of this thread waste of my time
