Bad fuel pump?? Under load bogging.
Bad fuel pump?? Under load bogging.
Hey guys, first post.
I have a 1992 Firebird with the 305 tbi, bought it two months ago, just recently got it legal and on the road. Here's the issue, when I first bought it, it accelerated slowly, unusually slowly, no misses, sounded fine, just no power, no pickup. Today, I was going to the local spring to rotates tires (pavement) and go for a dip afterwords, anywho, almost made it, then the engine started to bog under load, absolutely no pickup, couldn't go above 25mph and the engine was running choppy. The rpms would die to idle and I would have to keep it floored just to keep it rolling to make it home. The rpms would never go below idle, and in neutral under no load, the engine revs high and fine with no issue, no misses. But in gear accelerating, she does not want to go and would only pickup every 3 seconds in a surge as I had the pedal floored. I think it's the fuel pump, and Im currently researching the problem, just going to leave this here if anyone can throw in a few tips, or advise. Thanks! I had to type this fast, about to run errands, I'll check back later tonight.

Could be a lot of things. Could be the catalytic converter going and plugging up the exhaust, the symptoms you described match up with the clogged exhaust theory.
How loud is the pump? Does it run continuously? Test the fuel pressure
