strange running problem
Ive got a "91" 350 w/ tbi W/307k mi, when it starts getting cold it will start just fine, but after a min or so it will start surging. While driving it will miss very badly and will only run at wot. I also noticed lkg into tha tbi that gas seems to be more or less pouring into it,is this normal? It always come out of this and runs just fine.
Re: strange running problem
All the usual suspects: Check distributor cap, rotor, plug wires and spark plugs. I would perform a compression test, leakdown test, and cylinder-balance test. Fuel pressure test, coolant temperature sensor, MAP sensor.
My usual advice: AFTER inspecting the ignition system and the fuel pressure test, connect a REAL scan tool to the ALDL connector under the dash, look at the data stream. The compression, leakdown, and cylinder-balance testing will be helpful in ruling things out.

1st of all,"All the usual suspects" are just fine. This is something thats been going on for a cpl years or more.Even before I bought it 4 mo ago. It is totally random when it acts up maybe once or twice a year, mostly under 50 deg temp. Then there is the fact that Ive driven it 7+ k miles since I got it,it gets about 20mpg,and uses no oil.Runs like a top.................until it starts getting cold. Im not familar w/TBI and wanted to know if there was anything to look for in particular.

Re: strange running problem
Well, besides outside temp of 50 deg and lower causing the problem I FINALLY solved the problem. I noticed the exaust didnt seem to have alot of pressure and heard a slight exaust leak that came and went. Finally found the cat was leaking where the inlet pipes joined and they were solid. I cut the cat out and replaced it with a pipe. ALL problems solved. lol Cant really say that anyone on here was much help.
