89 bird keeps dieing
hey guys im troubled my 89 305 firebird keeps back fireing and dieing few last week we had a winter storm and my car was at 1/4 full before I left college to go back home that's 3hr away I filled up got about 15 miles out of town and my car starts cutting out and back fireing and died it was hard getting back started then it would run really rough after I droped down to 3/4 tank it ran good tell I got an hour away from home I filled up again before I could leave the gas station it kept dieing and back fireing after I got a few miles down the road it started to run half away decent soon as I got back in my town it just would not run I made it home the next moring I took it down to votech so I can hook a scan tool up I had an 02 code so I came to the conclusion I may have water in my fuel well im at 1/2 take of gas I put some water remover in the take and changed my fuel filter and map sensor and im still having the same prob but if I could hold the key in the start postion and it will run but Ik its hard on my starter but is it a possibley my fuel pump is going out but it was would it cut out under acceleration
Re: 89 bird keeps dieing
If this is actually a code-reader instead of a REAL scan tool, throw that shitty code-reader back in the drawer, and find the scan tool.
Is the gasoline you're buying NOT 10% ethanol? If you're buying E-10, you've got no need to add another one-tenth-of-one-percent "water remover" in the fuel, because the ethanol is ALREADY doing that.
What is your fuel pressure at idle? At WFO?
What is your system voltage when running down the road?

It was a genesis so it's not a shitty code reader and I have 91 Oct and voltage is 14 volts and fuel I have a tbi so the only way ik to check it is manual gauge in spot of fuel filter

Going out and the gauge was reading 14psi at idle but soon as u hit the throttle it dropped to 8psi so I had to put in a new fuel pump and decided to go with the ac delco factory TPI pump

Re: 89 bird keeps dieing
i bought this
in the pic the bottom center adapter is the one that is used on GM TBI systems
i placed my adapter between the rubber and hard line towards the front driver side of the engine bay, works great even with the 100 psi gauge(most guys will tell you to buy one with a 15 psi gauge)
