Code 43/Hesistation/Jerking/Lack of power
Hi everyone! So my issue is that my car seems to hesitate/jerk at lower speeds/RPMs. It's lacking power and it FEELS like it's misfiring, but I'm sure it's on base timing. When I WOT, whether on the freeway at higher speeds and what not, it puts up a code 43.
Before I go any further, I would like to mention that I have a 5.7TBI. I rebuilt the engine and went with a fairly big cam of 262.
With that said, I've done a bit of searching myself and I have ran into countless threads with RBob's Patch for 'Force knock' and I'm almost sure that that is my case.
I'm still not sure if that's the reason why my car seems to 'hesitate' at lower speeds.
If the 'Force Knock' may be the case, what exactly would I need to do the patch? Sorry If I sound like a newbie. I'm not to savy when it comes to techy stuff.
Any help is much appreciated!

Re: Code 43/Hesistation/Jerking/Lack of power
The code 43 at WOT is a failure of the forced knock test. Also, when this occurs a set amount of spark advance is pulled. This will result is lower mileage and performance.
The 'forced knock' patch is applied to the BIN, which is held inside of the chip that is in the ECM (removable). It only works on the earlier BINs, I think the patch is in the Patch Method Demo thread on the DIY_PROM board.

Wow! Just the person I was looking for! I appreciate the reply!
I still have a few more questions, it you don't mind me asking?
My engine is technically a 355 (since it's bored .030), and I'm currently using 91 octane for it. Do you think I need a much higher Octane of fuel?...or is it merely just an ESC problem? Maybe a bad ESC
..and you mention that it only works on earlier BINs?..How would I determine if my ECM is the correct one for the patch? would I need a special ECM (such as the one in the DynamicEFI site?)
Really sorry for all the questions..I'm just not to familiar with all the technical terms when it comes to tuning a car. I just want to get down the fundamentals and I think I'll be able to go from there. I'm desperate to pass SMOG is all.
Thanks again!
EDIT: P.S. Is there a risk taken when flashing the ECM?
